I've seen many post say a cocker will shoot farther than a mag. Can someone explain how this can be if the two are both set at 300fps using the same ball. It just seems to me if the speed is the same and the ball is the same the distance has to be the same. Now if it's the barrel doing something special couldn't you just put a cocker barrel on a mag?
how does a cocker shoot farther

Cockers don't shoot further than Mags (or any other gun) unless they have a Flatline.
Something that might give this impression, however, is if somebody'sgun (of whatever kind) is more consistent than your gun. This way, they are shooting 297, 298, 300, 298, and you are shooting 300, 278, 285, 272, 295. On the average, their shots will go further, since their velocity is higher.
Also, if your paint or barrel really sucks, you might be shooting curveballs, which won't go as far.
But (Z-body and Flatline aside), any two guns shooting at the same velocity will shoot the same distance.
Anything is just myth and wishful thinking. -
Cockers DO NOT shoot farther it is not possible. If the velocity is the same and angle is the same then shot will be the same.
Now after thinking along time about why people would say this I came up with 2 Idea's
-To sell the gun.
-Because the bolt and backblock on stock cockers are so heavy and the gun is clised bolt that when you shoot the bolt and backblock move back causing recoil that makes your barrel point at a higher angle right when the ball is leavig he barrel. On open bolt guns the weight goes forward causing the barrel to go down.Comment

personally, i dont get what everybody is on abt when they complain abt recoil. i've fired a lot of markers and i have yet to experience any recoil that was bad enough to actually affect my aim.
i mean, this is paintball markers we're talking about, not precision sniper rifles.
err... sorry, mebe that was a bit off topic

lol, thats about what i did too. can stand the hype surrounding cockers. when me and my friends first upgraded to cockers/mags, my one friend got a stock cocker cause he thought it would shoot further. well it did always shoot further. but we found out later when we got a chance to chrono it that he had been tweaking the velocity up...to near 400fps. no wonder it would shoot further.President Of the UW-Madison Badger Ballers

Definately extra lube. I keep two bottles at all times. Can't leave home w/o your lubricant.

I think Bill Mills of WARPIG.com did a project to see if the Closed Bolt action of a cocker(or other types) was any better then the Open Bolt action of other guns. If I remember correctly he modified a Stingray for the test, first using it open bolt, then using it modified. The results showed that there was no difference in range or accuracy between the two types.Comment
