what are valve "stars"

i recently bought a mag second hand. i was reading up on these forums and i came accross several posts that mention something about stars on their valves and how they don't want to "use them up"....

so what are these stars? and where do i find them?

Stars are located on the regulator half of the valve they are quit noticable if they are there. There used for free repairs through AGD, but recently there warenty policy has change there was a forum somewhere around here about that. If there is a grove that has been marked in a star that means that, that perticulare star has been used up.
