    First shot hot

Any idea why my first shot would be hot on my RT Pro? I've got a ULT and LX with an Xvalve on it..

I heard somethign about leaning the tip of the barrel on the chrony can screw with it becuase the barrel touches the top of the bolt... That have anything to do with it? I was pretty creful to lift it up off the top of the chrony a bit.

the barrel deally is with the old twistlock barrels since the bolt actually went into the barrel, i haven't heard of a first shot hot with the rt's. all i know is that the rt/x valves get hot as you shoot them under rapid fire since the gas dosen't have the chance to cool down but your problem is actually the opposite..

i dunno dude, hopefully someone can help ya out

Sounds like a leaking regulator seat o-ring.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

if you read the technical info on airgun.com you will see that automags often shoot hot when it's the first shot in a while. it almost always happens thats why you should shoot one shot and then chrono your gun!

with retro valves, x valves, emag valves and any other type of retro type valve i forgot to mention your supposed to hold the trigger down which heats up the on/off pin which simulates rapid fire. After holding the trigger down release the trigger and pull the trigger again very quickly after releasing.

also with classic valves the first shot hot problem was contributed to bad reg seats im not sure if its the same for rt valves but i can only assume! surprisingly the same oring you use for lvl 10 is the reg seat so try changing that out!

Yep, I think that might be it. I did read that, I just forgot about it.

The first shot was like 335, then it went into the 280's the next 3 or 4 shots. The ref told me I was good, and I could turn it down a bit, or I could just shoot off the first ball. I was playing speedball so it as all good.

Thanks guys. Sorry I never got back to my own thread.

The RT chrono procedure is used because the first shot is usually lower on the retro valves. When you release the trigger, the inrush of air to the front chamber is hot but at the preset operating pressure. If the gun sits for a moment without being fired, the air cools and the pressure goes down resulting in a lower velocity shot.

The only way the first shot will be hotter than the rest is if there is a tiny leak allowing the input pressure to gradually weep past the regulator and into the front chamber. The longer the gun sits, the higher the chamber pressure gets and the higher the corresponding velocity gets as well.

I agree with athomas. There is a leak somewhere in the reg, probably the reg seat.
