    AutoMag

I got an AutoMag today. I dont really no much about these guns. Im a tippmann man. But any way. It seems really nice. I was just hoping I could get some info on it. Like how much was it new. About how old would it be. What are some good up grades to do. Does it have the stock barrel. It looks like a SS Dye but I dont see any marking to say other wise. The gripframe says BenchMark. So is that stock or after market. I really dont know much about automags or there brand. So any help would be great.

Good, Bad, Im the guy with the gun!

It's an aftermarket grip frame. I don't think they are nearly as good as the AGD intelliframe. For upgrades look at the ule stuff.

ULE stuff and upgrades can be bought at airgun.com.

You have a classic mag, most likely level seven. You could upgrade to LX but I wouldn't be in a rush, I would just get an xvalve which comes with it. Trading in is kindof a waste as you can buy a pimped mag with xvalve for $450 from rouge.

If I were you I would slap a hopper on it and go play ball like it is. They are great markers, I'd take one over a tippmann any day. If you want a higher performance, more tournament mag, it would be better to sell it and buy a complete, they are a steal IMO.

I got it from my uncle in FL. He got it from a buddy. And he knows I love to play so he sent it to me. So I paid $0. I was thinking the barrel was a Dye from its shap. I have a Dye on my procarbine. And they look the same. This one just has no marking on it. I have a few questions. How do I cock it? Or does it do it by its self when you put the gas on. Is there any way to see if it all ready has the level 10 kit on it? Can I ditch the front grip and get a regulator? Ive done lots to my procarbine so I know how to work and use paintball guns. But this Automag is a bit diffrent. So im not sure how every thing works yet.
Also about how many shots would I get out of the tank. I dont see where it says the size. But it looks like a Crossfire 47cu 3000psi.

            Heres my ProCarbine.

The automag is a blow-forward gun, meaning it doesn't need to be cocked, just add air... You have HPA already with your Crossfire, so you won't want an expansion chamber or regulator... Like Trains said, slap a hopper on, and go play... If you decide you like the style of a mag, then maybe you will want to buy an RT Pro, which is what Trains referred to at about $450...

              Welcome, and happy Magging...

Looks like a dye or 32* barrel.
The marker cocks itself when you air it up. If you want to feel the effect then add air to it while holding the trigger back, then let the trigger go. You should hear a slight 'click' as the sear catches the bolt.
If you want to see if there's a level ten, degas the marker, take off the field strip knob holding the valve in, remove the valve (usually involves pulling the trigger, then turning the valve as you pull it out), then pull the bolt off the front of the valve. If there's a slot in the brass piece at the end of the powertube, it's a level 7. If there's hex wrench grooves around the outside that you can fit a wrench onto, it's a level 10.
You could ditch the front grip and put a gas-through on it, but I would stay away from a regulator. The mag valve is already a great reg - if you add another one you'll just starve the marker. Run a gas-through (or expansion chamber, if you like the looks of an exp chamber better), but don't put a reg on the front.

That looks like a field rental rail, so there's a decent possibility that you've got a field rental valve as well. The rental valves don't take level ten without modification, and they don't take the ULT either if I remember correctly. If you look on the side of the valve, does it say A.I.R. field rental or just A.I.R. advanced integrated regulator?

it says A.I.R. advanced integrated regulator on the side of the valve. Is there any thing I need to buy to fit an EX chamber or does it screw right in?

If the other side of that vertical ASA is tapped for a air line, then you can screw it into that and run the gas through the grip and then out the vert air adapter to the valve. It's probably not worth the effort though, unless you want to get rid of those blue pieces. You don't *need* an expansion chamber at all.

There's no level 10 kit But I cant *****. I have one more question. If I like this Automag. Have yet to play with it. Would it be worth buying any upgrade. Like level 10 or X-valve. Or would I be better off buying a newer more up to date Automag or Airgun desing marker? What every you call this brand.

My suggestion is to keep that automag.. If you play with it for a while (dont throw too much $$ at it) and want a faster gun, you dont need to upgrade it. the main upgrade taht you would do is to get a new valve... you'd be getting the Xvalve, either through purchasing one staight out, or doing the Go-Xvalve trade in.... but that cost is nearly as much as just buying a whole new marker. Like people have said... a new RT mag from one of AO's dealer will run you in the 400 dollar range... so it is prudent to hold on to that mag for a backup if you want to go to something else in the future.

yeah that's a great looking classic mag. You have a great starter mag and the price was even better. A few things you should do first and formost is to download the manual and any other PDF. files you can find from airgundesign so you have an idea of what the insides look like. It's going to be nothing like your tippmann other then it having a bolt that looks like the tippmanns. Once you read up on the gun then just unscrew the back screw (under the grip frame and not the one in back of the valve) and that will let you pull the valve out. Sounds like you've already done that. So now you only have to hook some air to it. It will cock it's self as soon as you air it. Sometimes old mags might even fire when you air it up so be careful and use a barrel sock. Once it's aired up you should be able to pull the trigger and have it fire. That back screw in the back is your velocity adjust. If you turn it clockwise (to the right) then the velocity will go up and if you unscrew it the velocity will go down till you can't fire it anymore. Also mags don't rapid fire when you run low on air. They just start to drop in velocity so if you see the balls dropping off then the air pressure is getting low. It won't full auto fire like the tippmann would if you ran out of air. Make sense?

As for upgrades my thoughts are always try the gun out before you get any upgrades. Who knows you might fall in love with mags and just go crazy buying everything for them. If you do upgrade this one then I'd say get a Level 10 kit. They take awhile to figuare out how they work and are installed, but you seem like a smart guy so you should have no problems. Let us know how it turns out. We're here to help and welcome to the forum.

Go for the level 10. My RT has a lvl 10 and I can barely out shoot my brother who has a classic with lvl 10installed.(yours is like the classic) Mags are not known for speed but for durability, maintainablity, and great accuracy. If you wanted a fast mag you would have to buy an E-Mag which can cost a bit. Mags can be beautiful though. I'll show you some pics of my babies. Pics of my Mags

Thanks for the info guys. What kinda speed can I get out of this gun. Right now the trigger frame seems really sloppy. So im gunna drill and tap it so I can put a trigger stop like I did with my ProCarbine. And after that Im going to see what else I can do to make it shorter. Now with my ProCarbine I grinded the lip of the bolt. Witch really made it short. Its about 1/8" trigger pull with 3lbs trigger, with trigger stop and a few other tirrger mods. But looking at this theres really no way to do that to the bolt. So I was woundering if any one had tried to grand off part of the Sear Assembly.
