So I finally rebuilt the valve....

And guess what, it works great! Two questions for you guys:

    1. Instead of a powertube spacer, I have a spring. Will it make a difference if I get a spacer in place of the spring?

    2. My on/off top looks nothing like the one in the classic diagrams, and mine has to go in a certain direction unlike the current ones. Will it make a difference if I replace this?

Other than that, it went great. Thanks for your help and giving me the confidence to crack my valve open.

Ok, for now I guess I will leave the spring in. I am the original owner so the on/off top is original. Maybe like the spring it pre-dates the current on/off tops? Overhauled the valve because of shootdown issues. Does the on/off top have anything to do with that(I'm running air)?

I will get a pic when I clean my gun this weekend. Hopefully I no longer have the shootdown after I overhauled the valve. The biggest reason I had shootdown was I used to run Co2. I've since switched to air and it made a big difference although still some shootdown after maybe 5-6 balls at 280fps. Although in 10-11 years not once was that valve opened or seals replaced. I hope that makes a difference. I'll let you know how it performs this weekend. Thanks for you help Space!

Does your on/offs look like mine?

Yep, that's exactly what mine look like. Do you think the newer ones perform any better?

The newer ones are more user friendly. I just trouble shot a guys mag that had really bad shoot down and it was because the on/off top was upside down.
