Testing barrels and springs for efficiency

I think this is the right forum for this....

I shot 10 times over a chrony with all three of my barrels with the same gray spring in my gun. Then I changed springs, shot 10 times again with the barrels and here is what I found.

10 inch Dye, porting just on the end, 8.5 inches to port
12 inch Dye UL 7 inches to the port
14 inch Dye SS 7.25 inches to the port

    Gray spring
    10 12 14
    270.4 273.6 262.4 10 shot ave.
    280 292 273 Hi shot
    254 261 254 Lo shot

    Gold spring
    10 12 14
    292.7 305.2 271.0 10 shot ave.
    315 325 315 Hi shot
    231??? 287 250 Lo shot

Now I realize that there may be a slight diff in barrel size, but for the most part they are supposed to all be the same size bore.

My question would be this...... If I use the Gold heavy spring, and turn down the air, won't I get better efficiency in theory???

I may cover up the porting and try the same thing later. What are your thoughts?

It seems I need to change out all my o-rings too. Atleast the reg seat o-ring. My velocity is changing too much for my taste.

no to the efficiency theory...the spring doesnt realy push the paintball at all( ever dry fired a spyder?) the air throws the paintball thats why when your low on air the paintballs dont go as far, good try though

I was thinking it would because the velocity went up when I installed the gold spring. If I lower the velocity it would save on air wouldn't it? Or does the mag work a little different than I'm thinking? Does the spring just have to do with the LX bolt then maybe?

The gold spring is more efficient than the longer springs, but it will be more prone to chop.

you will get better effiency with the shorter spring

the reason is because you will be using less pressure with the same size dump chamber...

now the flaw the reason why you dont use the shortest srping is because often it will be to hard and will not effectivily work with the lvl 10 so you will chop!

which brings up the last part if you are going to do that then why use lvl 10 when you can drastically reduce the pressure used by going back to lvl 7.

or you can counter act the effects of lvl 10s pressure and find the tech that has tried to sleeve the dump chamber to make it smaller and bribe him to do it for your gun! then you can get good effiency with the gray spring!

I hope you remember to make sure your balls fit all those barrels Perfectly or else you did this experiment for nothing! Paint to barrel match really affects effiency. TO small a ball in to big a barrel uses alot more air!

            AGD Did someone call me?

You should go to each gun manufacturers forum or call them up. Ask the OWNER of the company why his gun is better. When you get your answers come back here and tell us what they said.

You should buy my gun because I have 5000 posts that say I care.

Using different bolt springs, totally changes the firing parameters of the gun. The gold spring and its setup allows a faster dump of pressure out the powertube accelerating the ball more quickly. Because the air pressure is released faster, it also allows the bolt to close sooner which wastes less air after the shot.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
