help me with my old mag...

I've got an old 68automag. I guess that means its an automag classic.
I haven't really played in a few years and decided to start playing again recently. I oiled it up a little and took it out and had a great time...no leaks or anything, but one guy with an electric gun did look at my mag on CO2 and say..."Whoa...that's a dinosaur." I shot him out that game.

The problem is that i had a trigger job done on it before i quit playing years back and sometimes when i get to shooting quick it just stops shooting. It kinda farts out and seems like it won't "recock" (i know mags don't really recock). A good thump on the back of the valve resets it, and it's good to go again. Any good ideas??? I'm sick of punching my gun.

    I do know this
-It's not a liquid in the gun problem
    -the bolt is returning fine
-i'm pretty sure it has to be in the on/off, the power tube or the sear

thanks in advance for the help

it could be the co2 causing everything to get cold and stick somewhat.

      not the gas

thanks for the idea, but i'm pretty sure that's not the problem. I've used this gun for years (even if i've had a bit of a break from it) and can tell when the problem is with the air source. This problem is definitely mechanical.
      thanks

            that's the problem...
i don't know exactly what was done to it...but i do know that the problem is a direct result of something done during the trigger job.
i know this makes me a bad father...i let some strange man tinker with my baby.
he added a double trigger and shortened and lightened the trigger pull a good deal. I know he put in a power tube spacer (before the trigger job it had the old school power tube spring) and i think he messed with the sear, but i'm not positive.
I'm guessing this is a sear problem, but i'm looking to you guys for some confirmation
            thanks

sounds like your power tube space may be a little short. a longer spacer will hold the o-ring back till the bolt reaches the sear lockup position.

shortening and lightening the trigger pull could be part of it. did he mess with the length of the trigger rod? if its out of spec you can have problems...you may just need to get that back in spec and maybe the power tube spacer...

if you dont know/cant fix it, try pming tunaman on here, I believe he can fix er up good.

                  well...try this

                  2 possibilities...

                  1) Maybe he (trigger man) or you tightened the screws too tight. If either the field stip screw or the frame screw is way too tight, then it will cause bolt stick. Try lossening up one or both and see if that helps. They should be semi tight, but not torqued.

                  2) Maybe whomever did the trigger job may have shortened the rod just a hair too far. 95% of the time it will be enough to catch, but once in a while not. Next time it farts out on you, try putting an allen wrench (or anything small) behind the trigger and pull. If the rod is set too short, this will "thicken the trigger" and make it push farther back to let it fire and tell you the rod is too short. If you are sure the rod is being pushed back as far as it can go and still not firing, it is not the rod.
