Level 10 springs

I've got a new X-valve installed in my Mag. Everythings good so far.
I need to get it working w/ the best possible spring.
My question is: The L 10 didn't come w/ a cut spring, so which is the middle spring?
I recieved a red spring and 2 similar springs. Right now I'm using the 1 that came on the bolt.
All the directions mention a cut spring as the middle spring. I'm sure they've changed this since it first came out.
Anyone know which is which?

There are 3 springs included with new XValves. Gold, Red, and Silver---in order from shortest to longest. The gold is the most commonly used, but is the hardest of the 3 on paint.

My gun works great with the gold spring (shortest) but won't shoot w/ the red spring (middle). I turned up the velocity until it leaked out the back but nothing.
Is this normal? I want it to be more gental on paint.
I'm using the smallest carrier (no rings or dots) and 2 shims. It's the only combo that keeps it from leaking down the barrel.
