i've been having this problem for months and i've put it off every time but it's getting pretty annoying now. i can dry fire as fast as i want with no problems but once i put paint in my sydarm i will fire a few shots then the bolt won't reset, i have to cram a swab down the barrel and push the paintball into the bolt to reset it. how do i fix this?

Are you using the level 10 or the original level 7 in your sidearm?
I suspect your powertube spacer is too short. When you dry fire, the bolt is not encountering any resistance, so the bolt spring shoots forward quickly and becomes fully compressed. Also, when dry firing, the air in the chamber empties quicker resulting in less residual chamber pressure. This results in a faster, stronger bolt return. The higher force allows the bolt to fully reset against the powertube oring. When you shoot paint, the ball slows down the forward motion of the bolt so you don't get the same spring compression. As the ball remains in the barrel, you also don't empty the chamber as quickly either. This results in more residula pressure and less return force on the bolt. A spacer that is too short, allows the powertube oring to sit farther forward and combined with the residual pressure and less return force, has just enough opposing force in some instances to prevent the bolt from fully resetting.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts. -
it's only been a year ...
but i've finally decided to brush off the dust and give the sydarm another go at it :)
thanks for the advice on how to fix itComment
