What does the bumper on my level 10 do?

So I've got this clear gel stuff at the back of my level 10 bolt on my Xvalve. I think its the bumper but its in a state of disrepair.

What does it do? Can I use the blue foam bumper from my classic valve with level 10?

    Bumper

Slateman, This is a bumper that absorbs the recoil of the bolt being pushed back by the bolt spring. This is very important so the bolt doesn't get damaged or damage the valve dump chamber. For an RT/E-mag/X-mag/X-Valve it is very critical to use the clear bumper as it has slightly more give for the higher rates of fire these valves can attain and still maintain its integrity as a compound. The blue bumper is much to hard/stiff for the higher rates of fire. The blue bumpers lack of give will allow recoil energy to be transfered to the bolt and valve with higher force therefore possibly damaging either. I hope this helps and I would just order another clear bumper. Now I do superglue the bumper to the valve and this helps reduce twisting and wear while maintaining the resilience of the bumper. Good Luck, Outlaw5

I have also read here on the forum that it is okay to use the blue bumper - that it wont hurt anything, you just may notice a little more kick.
So I would say if your stuck and have to have something now go ahead and use the blue one, but if you can wait get the clear one.

Put a few drops of super glue behind it. It will last longer.

Mine came off like 6months ago. I see no difference w/out it. IMO its optional but not "required".

Are you sure about that? :)

It actually creates a tiny space, and could probley contribute to sear/bolt wear; Besides it being very loud.

Thats with the blue one.. now how about none at all?

...I prefer rubber cement... :) I know it doesn't make a difference, but it makes me feel all fuzzy inside because of the extra bouncyness Oh, and the fact that it's easier to clean up... Haha yeah...
