    Hall Holder Questions

Is there any reason that I can't make the hall holder on the e-mag out of aluminum? At least the top portion that is seen on the side of the gun? Would it interfere with the sensor in any way? Also, can I make it thinner or thicker without compromising anything?
It seems to me that there's no reason why I can't do any of this, but I figured I'd ask you tech heads just in case.

I am not familiar with the E-Mag. But, when you say Hall holder I'm assuming it has a Hall effect sensor that is activated by the movement of the trigger? If this is true, the easiest way to find out would be to place a piece of metal in the area you would hold it down and see if it sets off the sensor. Hall Effect sensors usually have a mounting area where clamps & screws go so you should be alright. The thickness of the holder will only deal with strength but if it covers to much area it may get into the sensing area. Best bet. put some metal next to it to identify the sensitive area. Hope this helps.

Maghog, do you have the Hall holder handy? If not I have an extra top and bottom I can mail you. When your done with it, you could send it back. I have no need for it, so you can keep it as long as you need. Let me know.

Thank you, but I do have the plastic holders, both top and bottom. I want to make them out of aluminum so that I can carve them with the rest of the gun. I appreciate the offer, but it is not necessary. I'd still like some answers to my questions though. If you could help me there I'd be grateful.

Pretty sure that the aluminum wouldn't mess with the Hall sensor, since it's not magnetic. I could be wrong, though, that's just an (almost) educated guess...

You will have to insulate the bare hall effect switch wires or they will make contact with the metal(aluminum) holder that you want to make. I am sure a small piece of heatshrink will do the trick.

Thats what I was thinking. The aluminum should be fine. Just make sure any bare wires from the HES don't come in contact with it. Properly heat shrinked leads should prevent that.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
