I agree with you, it would be like racing at Mineapolis with a Skoda and trying to win...

My 2 cents
Since this thread is already derailed, I won't feel too bad about commenting ...
I find it funny that people that play in tournaments just assume that that is the only real game out there. The majority of the paintball market/audience out there consists of the recreational player. Granted, there are a lot of wannabe tourney players at the local fields, but I bet most of them with their flashy clownsuits and shiny markers are playing in the rec games. At the fields I have played at, there is usually the 5 or so "real" tournament guys that show up and sit around most of the day fingering their "air" triggers because they've blown through their paint budget in about 5 minutes of practice on the speedball field. But hey, if that's what floats their boats...
While I have nothing overtly against tournaments and such, they are certainly not where most of the paintball money is made (by paintball companies) -- most of that comes from the once every few weeks player that goes out for the fun of the game. They are the ones that buy the tippmann 98s and kingman spyders and go out to have a good time.
From what I've seen of tournament players, there have been some that I've met that have been pretty good guys who could play with a group of walkons and not overshoot the heck out of them. But the majority that I've personally met have been posturing egomaniacs.
And as for ramping -- the tournaments can have it all they want, and can go limitless rate of fire for all I care. I don't think they (ramping and high rof) have any place in recreational play, though. People don't go out to play at local fields with the express goal of seeing how many balls they can stand to take, or how much pain they can deliver -- and if they do, they shouldn't be playing the game (or maybe they should just go play tournaments exclusively).

The ramping is used for shooting into lanes, in order to catch a player as he tries to cross thru it. Most players are not running up and shooting the others at 15 bps. You really should know what your talking about before giving advice.
Also he just asked about boards and software, he didnt ask what you thought of ramping. If you want to talk about the pros and cons of ramping start a thread in paintball talk.
Oh and WakeJake I think if you spent more time here you would find that you are mistaken in your opinion of AO members. I would say that the majority of the members do understand and play speedball.Comment

But does it happen? Yes! Frequently? Yes, or there wouldn't be more than 1 or 2 breaks on any tournament player.Originally posted by 11 BravoMost players are not running up and shooting the others at 15 bps. You really should know what your talking about before giving advice.
Also, I don't recall giving any advice -- simply stating an opinion on the issue brought up by other posters.Comment

i understand the whole rec thing. that is why we have 3 of our own airball fields. we dont have walkons. the reason we do not let walkons play with us, is because the games take longer than 10 minutes. We dont enjoy playing that. I love mags. i have a minimag and an xvalve mag that i just resently made into a pnue-mag. I cannot use those in tourneys though because of the rof issues. The reason for shooting fast isnt to paint up another player, it is to create lanes and hold other players down so my players can move. Ramping helps in doing this. All i needed to know was what i needed to do to put a gun that i have enjoyed for so long back on the field. i didnt want your opinion on ramping
btw- there are those people in speedball that try to destroy every player that gets on their field, but if you have ever been to a pro clinic or met a truly sponsored team, such as ours, you would see that those are the teams that help the sport. The ones that light up every one in a game are the people who only think they can ballComment

I think that this new software will allow you to get your mag back on the fields.
I just bought an emag and I'll use it as primary gun on tournaments here in Europe, in National chamionship as in Millenium tournament.
I'd like to see more mags on the fields here...
Good luck WakeJake05. ( what's your team ?)Comment

Hey, people, back off. He didn't say that ramping is the end all and be all of paintball, just that it was how he played. I don't feel the need to ramp and I don't have a ramping marker, but if I played a tournament where they allowed ramping you can be damn sure I'd feel disadvantaged. Tournaments are about using everything the rules allow you to so you have a better chance of winning. If the rules allow me to shoot faster with less effort, I'll take it, even if I prefer different rules.
Dude, grab that E-mag though, that's one badass deal. Use it as a backup even if it doesn't ramp, and hang on to it until you can get a new board or something. Check up on the pred board for it, see if you can get one. Even if you've got to put a little more efffort into it to make it exactly what you want, it'd still be a great deal if you're into 'mags. G'luck.Comment

Paintball is combat simulation; remember from history class, when fully automatic machine guns were introduced to war, they significantly overpowered units with bolt action rifles. A ramping player needs more tactical skill not to be hit. A pump player needs more skill in accuracy.Originally posted by snoopay700Such a waste of paint, whoever needs to shoot that i bet would lose if they tried pump, because anyone can win with ramping, but the same is not true for pump, that takes skill.Comment

I'm not a moderator (although I have stayed at a Holiday Inn) but could we keep the thread on topic please. This is a very promising and interesting development in the world of Mags.Comment

If you want ramping, Buy a programmer from me and load XMOD onto your gun. Me personally I'd prefer to play strait semi, but like the other guy said, if ramping is legal and other people have it we'd all be fools not to use it. What sux is that with the AGD stock trigger and using the raking technique I can consistently pull between 22 and 24 bps (I shoot 15 bps using the two finger technique) so being limided to 15bps is a bad thing for me.
Programmers will be available Jan 31 2006. Then for $100 you can have all the firing modes and extra features you want. Fore mode details check out my thread in deep blue HERE I've even included a display brightness adjustment, just for kicks. If there are any questions please email me at [email protected] and request the 18 page manual I wrote. It explains everything in detail including how to flash your gun step by step with screen shots and everything.Last edited by LorneCash; 11-11-2007, 02:39 AM.Comment
