Major Chopping Problem!!

Ok, so I went out and played today for the first time with my "new" automag (I bought it used). It works for like the first 4 shots and then it turns into a chopping machine. Balls were getting stuck in the barrel so I borrowed some from my friends that were a smaller caliber. Same problem. It became a damn mess. I finally got so pissed I threw it in the back of my truck and grabbed my tippmann pro carbine. I've ran that thing over before and it still works. Anyone have any clue what went wrong? It has the level 7 bolt.

sounds like you may need to replace the ball detents.

I was thinking that may be it as well. I just wasn't sure so I wanted to see what everyone else had to say. Thanks for the reply.

I have to agree with the nubbins, they're cheap and easy to replace, and would possibly explain that. I have only ever chopped with my 2 classic's when I was shooting really really brittle paint. Like 0 drop paibnt.

Were they barrel breaks or chops? Cuz it doesn't sound like chopping at all.

Not sure which one it was. All I know is that some of the balls were getting stuck in the barrel and then a whole lot of paint just oozed out of the barrel.

Ok. Then it may not be chops.

Was there paint shooting up into the feedneck? That's a chop. If it was only further down the barrel, then it was barrel breaks and double feeding. A different barrel or better detents/nubbins would help IMMENSELY.

Ok it's barrel breaks. I put a new nubbin in. It's a dye SS barrel. I was looking at getting a J&J anyway so this may be a good reason to do it.

I had this problem two weeks ago. I might as well had a hose on the end to direct the paint. I have recently switched over to compressd air and wondered if this was the problem. Maybe the old reg is tired?? Considered the detent, I have the wire kind, maybe the ball was moving forward when the blast of air hit it?? Also thought the paint was somewhat brittle?? I have the original level 7. Any ideas?

Of course the ball is going to move past the detent when hit with a blast of air... It just got shot!

And the reg won't get "tired."


And the same question applies- did paint shoot up into the feedneck or just in the barrel?

What I meant was the ball would not be held in place untill the air had hit it. These were barrel breaks. In regards to the reg, "tired" meaning time to rebuild because it. Velocity inconsistency. This also being considered with brittle paint.
