Tuning Lvl 10 on 68 mag

hey guys i just finished tuning the level 10 on my 68 automag classic, but I realized the only way to get it not to leak was to NOT use any shims and using the second to smallest carrier...its shooting great in my backyard. should I be suspicious or thrilled?

Does it work without leaking? I'd say be thrilled.

Shims is only for FINE TUNING, they're NOT required. And carrier sizes depend on oring, some body could run a 2 and be fine, and somebody else could run a 0.

noob question but, what do shims exactly do? Do you use them one by one if you have a small leak?

If you have a slight barrel leak, remove all the shims first and try it. If it still leaks then the carrier is too small or the carrier oring is shot. Adding too many shims will cause a slight barrel leak too. Add shims one at a time AFTER the carrier oring is broken in. Add one at a time un til it leaks then take one out.

          uh oh

well it was working for a while with .5 carrier and no shims, but then leak started, in the process of tearing it down to put the smallest carrier i noticed it is a field rental 68 valve and agd's website says lvl 10 is not compatible with these, not sure why...anyone have great condition 68 classic valve lying around to sell?

Unless it was modified, there is a flow restrictor in the powertube that prevents the rental valves from being set over a specific speed. This restrictor prevents the use of the level 10.

If you are able to use the Level 10 at all then your valve has probably been modified ... I tried the level 10 on my valve (which is a field rental) and the restricter prevents the bolt from fully reseting by about a quarter of an inch.
