    Automag 68 Barrel upgrade

Hey guys, I have the "old-school" classic 68 automag. Yes, i'm a woods ball guy and for all your rampers and full-auto.... it still only takes me one shot to your 15+ ... Anyway, on to business....

    I currently have a 14" Xcel Barrel.

It works great for the most part. We play at a local field and they only allow 260fps... kinda low, but acceptable. My barrel performs super at like 280-290 fps.

I was out w/ my crew at my local field and these three army guys showed up all with their Tippmann A5 & 98's. Anyway, they had some pretty long barrels at least 18" I mean i was clear across a field laying down fire for my team mates when one army guy spots me and takes one shot... and just square nails me in the face, i mean he was a good 100+ feet away, he was far, when i got up, i couldn't believe he shot me with one ball from that far.

Anyway, I want to get some input on buying a new/used barrel thats great for staight shooting. Yes, i'm running HPA and the marker is always kept lightly lubed at all times and checked after every game. I have a revII w/ X-board hopper on it, keeps up perfect for my rapid fire of single trigger pull :)..... yes, I'm old school....

Thanks for the help/advice on what kind of longer barrel I should look for my AutoMag 68 classic :)

barrel length does not = range or accuracy

if you want accuracy you need a good paint to barrel match, and any decent barrel that is smooth on the inside.

hells... even paint to barrel match isnt completely necessary.. I get pretty good accuracy on my stock tippy barrel where I am shooting paint that is clearly too small for it.

If they had very long range, they may have been using flatline barrels.

He probably was shooting at about 300. An 18inch barrel should slow down velocity more than anything.

          Sounds like a FLATLINE Barrel.
Within 100-110 feet they shoot arrow straight. but at 120-180 the ball tends to go.......Well, anywhere it pleases. You will never out distance a flatline barrel, no matter what barrel you put on. Me included.
You could try the Apex barrel
they ARE wicked you CAN Litterally Shoot AROUND Objects. NO JOKE!!!!!

there isn't anything you can do with your Mag to make it shoot farther then turn up the velocity higher than 300 fps, which is illegal anyways.

yep, lenghth does not equal accuracy, in fact, every time i see these woodsballers at the local field showing off their 21'' barrels, i act like an *** and show them up by bieng more accurate with a 7''..... then i tell them how they "waste an uber amount of gas and look silly"

i agree, ive used flatlines, its good until it curves, which if practiced with can be used to go around large objects. and the apex, used one yesterday, it was freakin cool, you can adjust the curve on it.

Well there is the old galactic body. That is supposed to put spin on the ball like the flatline for add distance. I don't know much about it.

My guess would be that they were shooting hot (or at least hotter than you).
The flatline barrel on the A5 doesn't look like an 18" barrel it actually looks fairly short due to it's girth. The flatline on the 98C does look a bit longer. Either way, a flatline should be easy enough to ID, just look at them on the Tippmann website there are only two models, one for the A5 & one for the 98C, they are fairly distinctive.
If they were shooting at 300 (or over) & your marker was still set to 260 you would be at a considerable disadvantage.
