What can a regulator in place of my gas thru forgrid do for me? Are regulators worth it will it increase the performance of my mag? How?

You don't need a regulator for a Mag.

do you have a classic/68 automag? if so, are you running CO2 or compressed air?
if CO2 a good reg will help keep liquid CO2 out of your valve and keep your mag shooting well.

if you're running a classic mag on co2, a palmers stabilizer may help keep any liquid co2 from getting to the mag's regulator and freezing up the valve.
i'd only suggest doing this if you play in cold weather, otherwise you'd be using a 90$ forgrip...
if you run hpa it wouldn't help at all. double regulating a mag will only increase the possibility of shootdown at high rof.
