    Ball Chops

What are the most common reasons for ball chopping with Automags? I've been having several recently and I was wondering what the problem might be. Thanks.

    lets see... where to begin....

check your nubbin(s) to make sure they are adjusted properly

chkyour velocity incase its too high

chk for burrs in the barrel....

also are these breaks in the barrel or are the chops from the ball not loading all the way....

is the powerfeed plug adjusted right
    is it happing when rapidfiring
loader may not be keeping up

well i'm sure that others will come up with other things to try

I was wondering about the feed plug myself. I'm fairly sure it's not the feed system keeping up (it's a warp ). It also seems to be chopping at the bolt (end of bolt covered in paint).

What kind of paint, as I experienced a ton of breakage in the last two weeks with my mag, I was shooting ProBall, and Green and Pink Marbs. I broke more paint than I shot all day long. My SS barrel is still coated in paint as i type. I also use an ANS Venturi bolt sans foamie.

It was just your average field paint. RPS i think. I suppose it could just be that big 'ole metal bolt layin' the smack-down on them poor balls Anyone else have an idea???

If your using the warp and the balls are rolling out the end of the barrel then you are probably double feeding them past the nubbin and chopping. You should switch to the plastic nubbins, preferably in a double nubbin barrel like the stock one. Also MAKE SURE you have the latest updated power feed plug, it has two small holes in the thumb grab.

It's not double-feeding, I'm almost sure of that. I am using a plastic nubbin too, and i THINK i have the latest plug. Would it have anything to do with me shooting .684 paint through a .693 barrel?

                    Double feeds and chopping

I recently built a MiniMag RT, and after cleaning it once I discovered that I began double feeding some paint and chopping as a result of that. I finally tracked the problem down when a friend of mine (who owns an RT Pro) noticed that my marker made a clacking sound (like metal on metal) when I was firing. I discovered that I was missing the rubber washer that sits between the bolt and the valve. I must have lost it when I was cleaning the marker, and just not noticed it, but now that it is back everything is working beautifully. Consequently, on the same subject, my friend with the RT Pro has been having problems with balls chopping as well. He has a centerfeed RT Pro and a Halo. The barrel he was using is a 14" Boomstick. The paint he was using is black and gold, and I think that the Halo was forcing the paint into the marker too hard. This caused it to become oddly shaped and explode in the barrel. We have not had a chance to test out fixes for this one yet, as I just read about the problem with black paint on the forum this morning. The paint that was giving him trouble was blaze, which seems to have a slightly softer shell than the RPS Premium, which did not give him trouble. I still do not know if it is more related to shell hardness, color or something else altogether though. Any input is appreciated.

I have found the reason behind my breakage probs Black Ops mentioned. Three things were to blame. 1. Black shell paint. 2. Halo 3. Myself for not knowing about this issue with the Halo and black shell paint

I love my Halo but had no idea about not being able to shoot black shelled paint! There was nothing on the instructions about this issue. But I went to Odyssey's www and there it is big as day! NO BLACK SHELL PAINT! hehe!

It seems my barrel (12 Boomy .688)was letting the paint almost double feed when the Halo was pushing too hard on the black shell paint. A temp fix was to use my Freak barrel with a .687 insert. This insert being smaller stopped the double feeding and the marker chopped no more! I tried the .689 insert and it was just like the Boomstick allowing double feeding.

The Diablo Blaze paint I was using was very strong! I used 10 balls from 3 bags and got from 9 to 22 test drops before they broke. NOT BRITTLE AT ALL In fact had they been weaker shelled I would have found out about the color issue with the Halo sooner. The Halo would have crushed any black shell paint that was brittle or weak. The only clue the paint gave me was a big, big dent on the top of a ball when I removed my Halo and looked down in the gun.

I will use Diablo paint again......just not black shell hehe!

I am having the same probelm with my Warped RTPro, and 14" Boomy. I'm guessing that the dwell was set too high, and was forceing the balls into the breach. I had the dwell set to max w/ all jumpers horizontal, I switched the right two jumpers to vertical as instructed by someone on AO, but haven't had a chance to try it out. BTW, I wouldn't break balls if I only shot one ball at a time, just when the trigger went retro. I know it was breach breaks, because paint would spew out the powerfeed vent.

I just went through a ton of breakage myself this weekend and it ended up being the new case of marbelizers I bought. My friends case was junk also. I was pissed that I spent $65 bucks and the paint sucked!!!! I used some 8 month old paint and had no breaks.
Has anyone else had probs with marbelizers lately? Its all I usually shoot but am now going to change.
