Have you tried putting a few drops of oil between the insert and the body tube? You could put the oil in through the milling in the sides.

if you are willing to do a little work i'll tell you how i got mine out.
ok hear is what you'll need; a piece of rubber about an inch thick just a little piece nothing huge just enough to cut a circle out of the size of the ID of the barrel, a piece of allthread something small like 5/16 should work fine and about 8 or so inches in length 4 nuts to fit the althread, a piece of small diameter PVC pipe just so long as it will fit over the althread and inside the barrel (i used 1/2" hot water.
-cut out a piece of the rubber so it will fit inside the smallest insert you have it (i used a doorhole saw and then sanded it down till it fit)
-drill the hole in the center of this piece of rubber so the althread will go through
      - now cut a piece of the PVC pipe about 4" to slide over the althread
-ok now that everything is ready slide the althread through the rubber piece and put 1 of the nuts on this end ( a lock nut would probably work best here, then on the other end slide the PVC on and the the other 3 nuts, 1 against the pipe just leave it loose and the other 2 tighten together at the end of the althread.
-now insert the end with the rubber on it into the unscrewed half of the barrel were the insert is stuck, be careful not to scuff up the inside of the insert (you might put a piece of tape over the lock nut, try not to push the rubber completely into the insert about 1/2 way should do fine) with this end in snug take some pliers or whatever and tighten the other end against the pipe this might require 2 wrenches one to hold the nut on the end and 1 to twist the 1 closest to the pipe tight causing the pipe in turn to press against the rubber causing it to expand and creating a grip on the insert, once it is snug not so tight something might break simply pull the end of this contraption and the insert should come out with it, when it is out simply loosen the nut and remove the rubber end out of the insert, check to make sure it is ok. sometimes it may take a second try but this is how i remove mine so if you have any questions feel free to ask by my e-mail in my sig or on here.
once it is out i find that as a preventative measure i leave them stored out of the barrel until ready to play and then i place oil on the insert before inserting it into the barrel.

hows about you just use simple science... get a towel hot with hot water, wrap it around the back, wait for it to expand, then just slide the insert out. its amazing how simple life is.

**edited because after i read my original comment i thought it sounded a bit smart elicky**
i'll admit, mine is an extreme method but i also tried several other ways before i resorted to this, it will work but i do suggest you try the hot towel method first as it might work. it did not for me so this is why i went on to build this. i now keep it in my freak case as i use it often.
