    Break in period

I recently purchased a mag. I have been getting some serious jumps in my FPS consistency as much as 40 fps between shots. Is there a normal break in period for a mag? If not what about running a regulator in place of the forgrip? Just for the record it's a X-valve w/ level ten.

What kind of tank are you using? I wouldn't blame it on the X valve just yet. Inconsistent output pressure from the tank can cause erratic velocities also. I wouldn't put a reg on the front, you have one of the best regs there is built in to the valve. Besides, you risk starving the valve with another reg. A break-in period would relate more to the level 10, not the x valve. Are you chronoing it according to the RT chrono procedure on AGD's website? http://www.airgun.com/rtchrono.shtml.

The usual problem with big velocity fluctuations is inconsistent paint to barrel match. If the paint you are using is odd shaped or inconsistent in size, then you will experience big velocity fluctuations.

Another cause for velocity fluctuations is dirt in the the valve. This can cause inconsistent movement of important parts in the regulator.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
