    bolt modification

would it be possible or even practical to shave the tip and back of the base of a lvl 7 bolt (like the lvl X) to minimize the impact on balls waiting in the stack as the bolt travels forwards and back?
    thanks

how would this minimize any impact anywhere? It would only give the bolt more time to speed up befor it hits the chambered ball.

AGD used to make foamie level 7 bolts back in the day. they must've switched to the longnose for a reason.

sorry, poorly worded. would it be practical to angle the leading and trailing edges of the bolt so that the bolt would not impact the next ball with a sharp corner, but rather a slope?

This was done several years ago and posted on this website by Tom Kaye himself. Basically you could round the nose of the bolt so that there was no sharp edge to break a ball in the stack. I did it (before level 10) and it worked very well. Here is a pic to compare what the bolt should look like before and after. Shaving off too much could result in more blowback up the feed tube. This is the pic that Tom posted years ago.

what about polishing and putting a smooth finish on the ground edges? do i even need to worry about it?

and what about doing the same with the back of the bolt to mimmick the shape of the lvl 10 and protect the balls on the return path?

I don't really think polishing matters as long as the edge is rounded. I have not done the back edge so I can not tell you for sure. It sounds like a good idea, just don't go over board with it.

The back edge is not high enough to worry about. However, the front bolt edge can be a significant edge for the next ball if the ball in the breach is small or sitting forward or back of center.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

yeah, now that i stopped to think about the travel of the bolt, i see how sanding the back edge would be pointless.
