how could i have sheered the field strip screw on my gun? I doubt i over tightened it, but it might be a possibility. but what else would have done it?

age or stress...the more you loosen and retighten it the more you wear it and stress the metal. That and the older it is sometimes metal tends to deterioate in strength as they age. Take for example a really old car. The nuts and bolts may look new, but when you take a wrench to it, they sheer off. It's all about what types of elements (water, acid, chemicals) the metal was exposed to, the age and the stress placed on it. -
