Braided hose and nickel plated connectors

I just replaced the swivel connections for the micro line with the nickel plated elbows and braided hose on my emag. I can't get the xvlave connection to not leak, even with plummers tape. If I screw it in far enough to not leat, the valve won't go into the body. The screw threads on the swivel were a lot longer than on the nickel plated one. Do I need to just put several rounds of tape on the threads or what?

Its not leaking much now, just barely, but its still leaking.

More tape won't help. One wrap is enough and more than that is silliness. Pipe thread seals on the threads and the tape is simply there to plug up any tiny gaps, not to actually create the seal. I prefer teflon paste to the tape but the tape is easier to keep in a gear bag.

Anyhow, long story short, you're SOL with the fittings you have.

The only thing you can do is look for another fitting with a longer stem on it.

You may want to try the swivel aluminum fittings that are square-ish in shape. I use those on a few of my 'mags and they work nicely with braided line because they allow the line to sit as relaxed as possible and not kink or bend. Likewise with quick disconnects - QDs won't always seal properly if they're at a slight angle.

Thanks, got any leads on where to get them?

If it can get slightly tight without preventing the valve from working right, you could try cleaning out the teflon tape and using a bit of blue loc-tite. Make sure all the teflon tape is gone, or the loc-tite wont cure.
