What is exactly the role of the shims in the Lv 10?

I know that you need enough shims to have the bolt to reset, but not too much so it won't leak. But what does is exactly do? How does it act? Does it have any role with sensitivity? Thanks

The shims determine help determine when the valve starts to vent air when a obstruction is noted. It is a balance between the point at which the bolt starts to vent spring pressure and how hard the bolt will hit the obstruction. I probably did not describe it as best as it could but I am sure someone else could do a better job of explaining it

umm well i think a breif explanation is the right amount of shims cause the bolt to have the right balance of pressure to chuff on a badly loaded ball to prevent chops but enough force to reset the bolt

Shims have no bearing on the pressure/sensitivity exerted by the bolt.

Shims physically move the carrier and oring farther back in the powertube. By doing this, the bolt does not have to move as far before the vent hole becomes exposed past the carrier oring. Each shim represents .01". Basically, the shims allow you to tune how far the bolt has to travel before it can be reset. Most of the time, even in extreme circumstances, if the bolt moves at all, it moves far enough to expose the vent hole even without shims in place.
