Air America - Armageddon Tank - discontinued, what to do?

So I've had this tank maybe 3-4 years now, just had it re-hydro tested, worked fine up until this last weekend when I played. It's an adjustable 88/4500 Air America Armageddon tank, very similar to this one

except a 88cu inch. at any rate, the output pressure adjustment thing at the front of the reg (highlighted in red in this pic)

appears to be stripped. There's a little allen key set screw that goes into that piece and adjusts the output pressure. I cannot back it out or turn it in anymore and it's completely locked up inside that piece. I looked on the Air America website, and apparently they no longer make these tanks/regs. They do offer a trade in program for the old regs to replace them with their ScrewN regulators, except the only problem I see is that they're pre-set high or low pressure. I prefer the adjustable so that I can tune the retro of the marker to the way I like it.

    So what are my options?

    a) send the tank and busted reg back to AA (Now NPS as stated on their site) along with $65 and they'll put the new ScrewN reg onto the bottle and send it back. I get a pre-set high pressure screw in tank.

    b) Can I get another manufacturers reg put onto the tank? If I were to purchase say a used Dynaflow relatively cheap from the local PB shop, could they put that on this tank? The only problem I see is that I guess with the Armageddon reg, the bottle comes off of the reg so one could have a smaller bottle and not have to replace the entire air system. Is it even possible to convert the AA tank to acccept a Dynaflow (or other manufacturers) reg?

    c) I send it back with $65 to AA, get the reg swapped out with the new ScrewN valve/reg, and re-sell it and purchase something new?

Opinions? Anyone else run into this with the AA tanks?

You can get another company to replace your reg. I did that with my dye throttle. The recharge rate on that thing sucked. Almost any reputable company will replace the reg on your tank. You just have to buy the reg.

      yup

guerrilla regs can be bought without a tank and most pb shops can swap regs for you, but..if you plan to travel with the tank, specify if you want the threads loctied or not..if you travel dont get them loctited, because you have to take the reg off the tank to fly

Well as long as I can get the local PB place to put the reg on (they said they could) I'll maybe just have them do that.

is it true about flying? I always heard and read that you at least have to leave the tank empty and cannot ship it full? Do you actually have to remove the reg each time you ship it if it goes air or if you fly with it? I find it hard to believe all these paintballers that travel around for scenarios and whatnot all have their regs removed when they goto different games?

You Do not have to remove the Regulator to ship it
You Do have to remove the Regulator to Fly with it on passenger plane.

How can you get away without loctiting the reg on? I never understood how say the micro maxflows were supposed to be able to be removed from the tank easily. Can someone explain this to me? It would be nice to have a reg that i can swap on different tanks without having to take it to a shop and pay to have it done all the time.
Why doesnt anything work for me.

Did you misread my post? Or are you saying that it has to be removed to ship it.

Why does AGD ship them attached to the tank? http://store.airgun.com/index.cfm?fu...&categoryID=43

Option 1: Have a machinest remove the adjustment screw, and retap the threads. It is prolly the screw part thats boogered up, the other part is made of Stainless Steel.

Option 2: buy a Centerflag adjustable and have it out on your bottle.

Try #1 first, it may be easier than you think. Try taking the adjuster rod out from the inside and screw the adjuster screw out through that end.

As for shipping/flying with tanks. When Flying You HAVE to remove the valve so they can visually inspect the inside, I.E. No bomb materials, etc. For shipping you do NOT have to remove the reg, they do require that you empty them, but they usally dont check.

the reg on the 'geddon I have actually comes off. The bottle itself is threaded similar to an ASA (but different, obviously proprietary for the 'geddon reg) so you can swap out smaller/bigger bottles and just keep the reg.

Here is the reg off the armageddon

And here is where it screws onto the tank.

The tank is still pressurized, so my other problem is how can I get the air out so someone can work on it?

Heres a pic of the reg getting screwed onto the tank

And for comparison, here is my crossfire pre-set screw-in

I did notice where the reg meets the bottle on both tanks is the same, so I guess I can replace the 'geddon reg. I'll have to hit up the local PB store and see if they still have their re-built regs out there.
