    X-Valve problems

    I have an X-Valve that will not work properly no matter what I try.
    Here's what is going on. When I air it up, it doesn't fire until I screw the velocity adjuster nearly all the way in. I tried three different tanks, all of which were freshly filled, so I know it was getting plenty of air. Once it would fire, it fired fairly consistently but the velocity was about 350 fps. I tried all the springs in my LX kit to no avail. Tried it in my Emag and my mech with the same problem. Every now ant again it will retain air when I remove the tank, forcing the on/off to stay down so I can't remove the valve; but it won't fire to relieve the pressure.
    I thought I read somewhere that the X-Valves have the equivelent of onr "star". any truth to that? If not, can anyone recommend someone I can send my valve and body to to get it fixed and LX adjusted? Thanks!

      It definately sounds like you are getting bolt stick. It means you have to increase the operating pressure high to overcome the friction. Then it shoots at a high velocity. Tune your level 10 carrier size so that you use the largest one that doesn't leak. Do this with no shims installed.

          Thanks athomas. I thought of that too, tried the remedy you suggested and no go. I'll try again to see if I missed something though. I appreciate the help.

              Use the shortest gold bolt spring. That will keep the velocity lower while allowing the gun to operate consistently.

              The valve will sometimes hold air in the chamber. To remove the valve, hold the trigger while allowing the valve to slide out the back.

                  No dice, same problem. I think I'm going to cash in a "star" and get it checked out.

                      Have you changed all the orings and cleaned the internals? Thats usually the first place to start. Does the valve have a ULT?

                          That was the very first thing I did. I took the valve completely apart, cleaned and lubed everything, and replaced all the o-rings. When it didn't work the first time, I disassembled it again to make sure I installed everything correctly. Everything looked normal, it just won't shoot. I used Dow 33 to relube everything, that shouldn't be a problem though. I'm at a loss...

                              The dow33 could be your problem. Dow has its place, but its not in a mag valve. Take the valve completely apart and wipe everything clean. Lubricate with a good quality air tool oil.

                                  If you have another retro type valve, try putting the back half of that valve on the front half of the xvalve and vise-versa. It could help eliminate what is causing your problem.
