my level 10 choped a paintball! How???

I was testing out my gun today(68 classic with xvalve level 10 installed by airgun design, jj barrel, electric hopper, power feed body 68/45 pure energy , and two thigns went wrong , i will tell these problems in order

    1. I was shooting on really fast, i accidently short stroked,( which does happen from time to time) as soon as i short stroked, air immediatly began leaking fro the barrel, and the trigger wouldnt recharge. so i unscrewsd the air and started over and it was ok. the question is how did that happen? do i need oil? was level ten malfunctioning? ( after this i turned the pressure down slighty)

    2. once again, i began to rapid fire, then all the sudden i chopped a ball, i thought it came from the barrel after all i have the level ten bolt. but no it busted in the chamber and it made a huge mess. yes i had good clean paint, i used diablo nightmare paint. also i have a powerfeed body and a electric hopper, even if the paint is weak the level 10 should not bust paint. is it s freak accident or a unsolved mystery? or do i need to get a lighter spring for my level ten bolt? remember agd installed my level ten and xvalve. this is the only bust i have had in 3 cases.

any comment or any help to any degree will be greatly appreciated.

    thanks nate

p.s i am playing next week..

check to see if the lvl 10 is working correctly by using a squeegie to see when and where it is venting. also jsut dry fire and see if the bolt sticks forward, if so it probably is your carrier that needs to be taked up in size (if you do make sure to use the same carrier oring)

I agree that maybe it needs larger carrier. It was apparently venting air down the barrel but not resetting. Adding a shim won't help, because it already had the ability to vent the air.

Using a larger carrier will make it easier on paint just by reducing the starting force required to get the bolt moving.

A tight barrel can cause a ball to bust. The ball can bust when it is about 1/2 way into the barrel, which is the breach area. It will mess up the breach almost as bad as a chop.

The silver spring with 1 end cut, is the equivalent to the newer red (middle) springs. The red springs are the most universally used bolt springs. The uncut silver springs are the stiffest springs and offer the softest pressure on the ball. They can be tricky to setup and may not offer consistent operation if everything isn't done to perfection.

Just because it was setup by AGD doen't mean it is optimum for your setup. AGD uses a general one size fits all approach when sending equipment out. They have to do it that way to reduce setup time and also allow the guns to operate in most circumstances. As soon as you change operating parameters of the gun by changing springs or barrels the operating pressures change and things may not work so well. Now you need to tweak the setup to make it work more efficiently. In your case it means adusting the carrier size.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

            to piggy back of that

agd supposedly breaks in prebuilt guns some what but in my case after 3-6 cases (really rough guestimations) the carrier oring breaks in more so you need to swap it out.

if you do swap the carrier a helpful tip streight from the tech guy is to use the field strip screw and softly push/kinda turn it into the carrier to grab it so you can pull it out (just be careful not to cut into the carrier oring). this trick cut carrier swaping in about half for me just becasue i was able to get the carrier out in a few seconds as apposed to a min or 2 by jsut shaking and trying to use allens to grab it out.

I rarely chop... maybe 1 ball ever other case. Red spring and 295 FPS is what I use.

I thought GT's Uber quick LVL 10 guide on the forum was pretty good.

Something that a lot of people skip is to FEEEEL the fit of the bolt in the power tube with the valve in your hand. Even if you don't get it right, you will eventually understand how the carrier fit is going to work with everything else. Randomly adding shims may work, but remember how many you had when you started (write it down). Just FEEEEL the power [tube].

there is a common missconseption going around and i know it is hard ot believe but it is just a myth. some one went around saying that the level 10 will never chop a ball and that is a blatant lie. it doess greatly reduce paint breakage. so much so that it is possible to stretch the truth and say that the bolt will never chop but it will.

the titanic was said to be unsikable. it sank. level 10 supposodly wont chops, it does every now and then.

put eyes in your mag and you will be set.

With most paint, if the level 10 is properly setup, it would be very difficult to chop a ball. It just can't exert enough pressure on the ball. Most chops in a level 10 are due to improper setups, or are actually barrel breaks. These barrel breaks aren't the ones in the barrel, but rather the ones that happen when the ball is being pushed into the barrel. They break in the breach and it looks like a chop. These can be fixed using a larger bore barrel.

Another thing that causes level 10 chops, is when the bolt spring wears out after about 30000 shots. When the spring gets weak, it allows the bolt to hit the ball harder. The spring is a consumable item that a lot of people forget to change. Thus, many level 10 setups start to chop as they get older.

That being said, nothing is perfect. But honestly, I have never been able to get one of my level 10 mags to chop a ball since I first installed them when the level 10 first was released. I even used 4 year old paint once. It was so brittle it would break on a single drop, but the level 10 wouldn't chop.
