Bolt Springs, carriers and paint that changes direction

Ok I've read the level 10 thread and I think I know what do do but I want to ask.

When I got my used etac last spring it shot ropes (even with the paint that now curves using the same barrel), never chopped and except for a problem with a sear getting worn out, basically ran like a sewing machine.

I took it apart once to examine the level 10 to and diagnose an on off pin problem (it had broken) and some tiny parts went flying. Not having any idea at that time how to fix it and since I saw the sear was wearing I sent it to agd to have it fixed. Since getting it back I have had problems with paint breaks and the paint curving one way and then another after leaving the barrel. Yesterday I used a little better paint than normal and it did better but still chopped. Now the balls would curve before a chop, when the marker was clean. I'm wondering if the paint was our of round.

So after reading the thread, It sounds like if I change the bolt spring to a shorter one or the red one it should get better. Right now it has a long silver one in it. Am I thinking right?

    issues

Sounds like the velocity is way too high to me - If they replaced many of th einternals, it may be spiking on the second shot in the string - mine jumped about 25-30 fps until it broke in. Make sur eyou are following standard RT/X-valve chrono procedures.

The larger the spring, the softer it is on paint, the more maintenance issues you may encounter.

I was running yesterday at 260. Does the same at 280 which is the normal field limit for woodsball.

did you check to see that the lvl 10 is properly working?

also some time mags jsut done like brittle paints (even some paints that work fine in other guns will some times not work) if the lvl x is working fine then try to go to the next hardest spring (it goes short gold/silver, red, gray i think but im not positive, im kinda tired and out of it but you shoudl be able to feel the differance between the 2 longer springs)

is it really choping or just blowing up on the blolt? chops are more going to be lvl x tuning and blowing up on the bolt more so a springing/paint issue

My team just finished a game that was about 30 degrees cooler than usual. Our 'premium' paint was REALLY brittle. I dropped one less than two feet to my truck bed and it cracked. Several of us were getting barrel breaks (clean bolts) in different guns. I got out my crown point barrel and had no more trouble. One of the refs said 'where'd you get a crown point?'. Later on, we changed to 'polar ice' (cold weather) paint and I went back to a smart parts progressive barrel without trouble.

Barrel breaks can be fixed by using a larger bore barrel. The old crown point barrels were good because they were about .693" id. Brittle paints aren't a problem for mags with the level 10 properly setup. They are a problem with any gun that is using a barrel that is too tight. A barrel that is too tight will also cause the balls to curve wildly and randomly, especially if the paint is not perfect.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

Another thing, flyboy, don't assume your brand of paint from last spring is still the exact same diameter. Shell and fill component variations can change the diameter enough to throw off your perfect rope. The manufacturers only claim to be consistent from ball to ball, not year to year. :) You could use one of those ball gauges to check.
