    bolt grease

i recently dis-assembled my gun to clean it after I chopped quite a bit of paint the other day, and the bolt was covered in paint. I took the spring off, and wiped it all off. it looked like the bolt/spring assembly was greased up before hand, do I need to re-grease it before using it?

Well for me after cleaning the bolt and powertube. I drop some oil in the asa and dry fire it for a bit and that's enough to lube it.Haven't had any issues yet.

Grease has a better lubticity, but collects and holds onto dirt more eaisly..

grease is good for big parts, ie: the spring on the bolt. oil is good for the internals in the valve...see why grease wouldn't work there?

Grease the bolt, put a few drops in the asa...and you're done

You want slick and protection then use a silicon based lube.
I use plumbers silcon for orings and seals.
The stuff is designed for orings where exposed to heat and friction so it seemed like a perfect fit for regulators and such.

i'm not sure if i did a good job of portraying what I'm talking about, i get parts confused alot. the part i'm talking about is the part the spring slides onto. it looked to me like it was already greased up a bit, unless that's just a collection of gun oil over the past year or so. i dunno.

yes that thing the spring slides onto is the bolt. i say it should get a little grease...others seem to say no.

I really see no reason to oil or grease the bolt. I actually wipe mine clean after a good day of use.

Grease your bolt and you get grease in the barrel and on the balls, and that isnt good juju. It really doesnt need any grease or oil on it. Do as others suggest, 2-3 drops of oil in the asa, and shoot thru about 20 shots. Make sure you remove the barrel, so you dont get oil down it either.

I agree. Do not grease your bolt. You will get transfer onto the balls that are in the stack and also in the breach area. The grease will affect the friction properties of the barrel (add friction on one side but not the other) which will cause the balls to be very inaccurate.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

                          Wow

                          Wow.. I learned something here...

I really thought that I should put the Autolube on the bolt and everything after opening it and cleaning it. Now I will keep it dry and clean. I will just add the 2 or 3 drops in the ASA and call it a day.

                          Thanks Guys!
