    SS Fitting question

    Hey all,

I just received some Stainless Steel hoses and some 90 degree elbows. The male threaded ends have what looks like black tape on them.

Is this used instead of teflon tape or should I still use teflon tape over the black?

thanks in advance for any info

Just to be on the "for sure" side, I would remove all of the black tape (electrical?) and replace it with teflon.

No matter what the tape is, clean the threads everytime and use new teflon tape. Adding more and more tape just makes a mess and sometimes defeats the purpose and you end up with leaks anyway.

It looks like electrical but when you peel a little off it feels like teflon tape. Black teflon tape is my guess.

Clean off the threads and use pink loctite.
