I recently got a mag with a x valve on it but my hpa tank is off at hydrotesters in WA so I don't know if it even works or not. Can I use CO2 just to make sure it cycles or is even that much a bad idea?

No really, in spite of warnings from the manufacturer and just about every poster here on the boards concerning the subject, I say give it a try. I mean really the worst you can do is to have it sent to AGD or Tuna (etc) for repair while your tank is being hydro'ed. -
