    field rental automag

I have recently (finally!) become the owner of an automag. I purchased a brand new automag 68 that was built as a "field rental", and I have a couple of questions regarding it.

    1. The words "Field Rental" are stamped across the A.I.R. valve, and the serial number is FG38776. Is there anything different or unusual that I need to be aware of for this valve? Is this valve compatible with the level 10 kit?

    2. The mag was sold as having a non-field removable barrel. In order to remove the barrel I had to loosen/remove the grip frame screw. If it was solidly locked down it seemed that the barrel lock nub might be a little too tall. Other than that it seemed to look like any other mag barrel. Just wondering if the brass barrel lock nub (not really sure what its called?) is different on the rental guns, and if I need to get a new one to have fully interchangable barrels or if I can just file this one down a hair so it works okay? I did put a minimag body on this, and it seemed to swap out just fine, but I still cant change the barrels without unscrewing the trigger frame.

Thanks in advance for any info on this!

Sounds like what is happening is that the screw is running so far up into body that it is contacting the barrel. Try using a smaller screw, or get a small washer(s) to put on the screw in the front of the frame.

Field rentals have a velocity restrictor that limits its highest chrono to I think @ 250 fps. You can drill out the restrictor which will allow you to shoot above 285fps and use the L10 bolt.

Sadly, I can't take photo's right now. It seems I put my camera's data cable someplace safe so I wouldn't lose it...

I'll try a shorter grip frame screw. I'm fairly certain it has something to do with the other part. I found the part on the store. Its called a barrel twist lock assembley. The website stated it should be pressed in, where mine is just free floating. I can see a spot on the barrel where the channel is and the twist lock seems like it is sitting to high. there is actually a mark on the barrel where it hits. I just wasn't sure if it may have been a different size on the rental markers to prevent/deter barrel removal by a rental player.

Thanks for the info on the restrictor! Are there any guides with photos on the forum? I just want to be sure I'm drilling the right thing with the right sized drill.

In order to use the level 10 you will have to have the valve drilled or you will need a new valve front . I never had problems with my mag getting to 280fps when i had the rental valve in it

Rental mags have a different twist lock post that doesnt let the barrel be removed. You just have to change the twist lock post. AGD still sells them IIRC.
I have nothing good to put here...........

Anyone know if field rentals have any collector value?

First, thanks for all the input from the forum members!

I was able to drill out the restrictor. After searching around on the forums it was a pretty easy mod. Now I'm just waiting for the level 10 kit to arrive and throw that on.
I appreciate the feed back on the twist lock post, too. I'll be ordering the correct one shortly! For now I'll have to enjoy the non-removable barrel

I'll be rocking out an old school polished mini-mag my next day playing. I do have to admit that I liked working on this gun so much I purchased a new mag from AGD too. I now have a purple bodied ULE to keep my minimag company.

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but one of my good friends has an 03 RC51. LOVE the Honda V-twins.

Yes they are very nice! The superhawk's front brake is a little soft for my tastes, but its much more comfortable to ride (im getting old!) than my cbr was, and a lot less $$ than a ducati.

this is the thread on how to modify the valve. Im still new at this, so if the link doesnt work do a search for rental valve. it was titled modified rental valve to accept level 10, the question was posted by magaman. I found it on the second page.

The restriction is actually in the power tube, and it was real easy to remove, just hard to clear up all the metal shavings.
