    Freak Back Twistlock Jam

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with there twistlock barrels not wanting to twist in? I just got a SS Freak Back and it's not wanting to twist in. I have a Dye barrel that has no problems at all. The Dye shows more wear and appears to have a smother twist groove and bump on the PF Left but not on the PF right. When I try putting it in and twisting on the PF right it does the same thing the Freak back does. This leads me to believe that the groove needs to be smoothed out. Should I use a dremel to try and smooth the Freak back out a bit?

    Thanks for any help

Yeah, I pushed in the twistlock pin to make sure nothing is wrong with it. It's pushing all the way flush inside so I know it isn't that. On further inspection of the lock slot on the Freak back I notice that where the dye barrel is smooth the Freak has a sort of burred edge that the locking pin must fort of get stuck on so I'll just smooth that out and all should be good.

I have a teardrop and a progressive twistlock and they both have poor grooves. The grooves were cut without rotating the barrel (more than once).

I haven't had mine stick going in, but I have missed the right hand feed groove, hit the center feed groove, tried to pull it back, and had the barrel detent fall into the feed port. There was nothing to do but pull out the frame screws to get the barrel out!

That little hump left in the groove allowed the barrel to get off the detent completely.

It's better than the J&J I had (for a day) that didn't have a groove for the nubin under the oring, which made it impossible to put on. The J&J was stainless, so I wasn't going to try to grind it out. A Dremel can grind stainless, enough a burr or a hump. Plan on using up the bit though.

Cool, I thought it was just me... So I guess I'm not the only one with the problem and my diagnosis is the correct way to fix it. Thanks for the help.

yeah its a bit hard for my barrels to twist in with my classic r/t body and minimag body. however i know there is a sprig tension adjustment screw on the underside of the twistlock assembly, if you back it out a little and give it some greese/oil might losen it up.
