Hey fellas, have a question about carbon fiber barrels. If this shouldnt be here then please let me know! What do you guys think of Stiffi and Sly barrels? Looks like they are about the same. Is it merely personnel preference or are there some real differences? I am leaning torwards the Sly kit mainly because of the longer backs which appeal to me over the shorter Stiffi backs/breeches. Thanks.

Personally I've tried the sly kit and not the stiffi kit. I do like the sly CF kit and have no problems yet. You might want to wait for MANN's barrel test and see what he gets out of that. I believe he's testing out a majority of different kits this weekend apr.17,07. It'll probably take a little bit of time to compile the data after the test. Good luck on your barrel kit hunt.

may i ask y a CF barrel?
i own a ccm cf kit along with a few othe kits / sngle barrels.
the cf kit is nice and quet but performance wise not much differant than my dye one piece al barrel. i payed 190 (or what ever ccm charged for the kit) and got the barrel in a trade and ended up basicaly getting it for free when i sold the rest of the stuf off. maybe thats why i see the kit as not as amazing.
the cf kits are good but not being able to use a swab gets on my nerves (none of the reasons make sence either to why you cant).
but to get back to your question, cf barrels are pretty much made alike... heck all barrels are mostly the same. but either way all cf barrels are a tube of cf with an al piece glued on to one end.
i would personaly get which ener one has longer backs

I have a stiffi and like it, it's light, quiet, and looks cool. I will say on the down side the smallest bore you can get is a .687 and i shoot marballizers which actually could use a .685 sometimes (batches of balls very in size) Buy a quallity barrel that matches the paint you buy and things will be fine.Comment

last time i shot marbs i had to use my 681 sixer on my ccm ( i checked my sizer with a caliper and it is exactly 681) and it barely held some of themOriginally posted by pierceI have a stiffi and like it, it's light, quiet, and looks cool. I had emailed them about the back sizes (for autococker) and they emailed me back and said that they have a .683 available but not any .685's at the time.Originally posted by pierceI have a stiffi and like it, it's light, quiet, and looks cool. I'm not really a fan of breaches, they are too short imho. I'm really not a fan of step bore barrels either, though i own two (the stiffi and my stock angel). I feel i get more flyers from them. My thinking is that after the ball comes into the stepped bore it hits the wall which in turn puts a spin on it.Comment

I have to admit that part of the reason I didnt get a cf barrel kit was because of the short back/breech length. As far as accuracy is concerned it seems that the cf barrels are no different then any other but that shorter back just bothered me. The best help for accuracy has proven to be a good paint to barrel bore match and paint of consistent size and that is not dimpled.Comment

I bought the stiffi switch kit and was not happy.. unfortunately I kept getting ball breaks ... I used marbs and allstars... When i switched to the stock barrel, I didnt have these issues.. I just ordered the Lapco Snapshot kit which has longer backs. I hope to get it next week. Ill let you know how it performsComment

I own many Lapco barrels Pico-shot (.682) thru Big-shot (.689) all in 12" and love them. They are quaity barrels just a bit laud but, they all shoot straight. The Auto-spirit (.867) is the same bore as my Stiffi and has less flyers but is not as quiet or as light (that is why i know stepped bores are not as consistent). On the flip side when i do have a barrel breaks the step bore will shoot out better.Comment
May try a full cf kit later on.
