Scuba Fill Adapter - What's missing?

So I finally got my scuba tank today. And it even has some air in it.

So I connected my scuba fill adapter (purchased used without testing) to the scuba tank and turned the air on. The air went straight through the adapter and out the other end.

Is this normal? Should the air just pass through the adapter?

Next I connected my hp tank to the scuba fill adapter. It had a very loose connection. When I turned the air on from the scuba tank air leaked very rapidly out of the connection between the scuba adapter and my hp tank.

This is not normal!

What am I missing? What is wrong?

There is nothing inside the connection but metal. No orings.

Any help would be appreciated.

that nob in the middle tight? thats the blow off valve to relieve the pressure so you can disconnect the paintball tank.

Yes. I had the knob tight. I also tried loosening it just for fun and then the air was leaking out of the bleed hole on the scuba adapter and the connection between the scuba adapter and the hp.

there should be an oring in there. Home depot carries the right size maybe #6 IIRC. Get an oring and try it out again. Or just sell it to me. (I need another fill station)

on your tank valve, there should be a little rubber oring/seal. When you put the adapter on, it should tighten against this and seal the space between the adapter and the tank. Is that were its leaking from?

I will check home depot for the oring and let you know if that is it. It definetly seems like there should be an oring somewhere in the mix.

Unfortunatly one of the fields I play at is SC Village in Corona. They have this crazy rule that they will only fill hp tanks that are 3 years old or newer. Even if the tank has a 5 year hydro. Even if the tank was just rehydro'ed. So since I am not about to purchase a newer hp tank my only option is to sneak in my new scuba fill set up.

Yes that oring is present.

Yes it is leaking where the female quick disconnect (on the scuba adapter) and the male quick disconnect (on the hp tank) connect.

i just got a new one, and had the same problem, the female end of the quick disconnect sucks and isnt the right size apparently, i just picked up another one from the local pb shop and it works fine now

you picked up another scuba fill adapter or a new female quick disconnect?

the female disconnect could have a blown oring inside. Or might not be compatable with your male end. I've had both problems.

sorry, yeah it was the female quick disconnect i replaced, i also had the same problem with the male end on my gas thru stock

FYI the proper oring size is a #5 (3/8" o.d x 1/4" i.d x 1/16"). Home depot sells them in a 10 pack for $2 bucks.

You can also use mag orings for the QD's.... IIRC you can put the power tube orings in them.. one of them.. I think power tube..

Damn Im glad that I got that close. I havent purchased orings for that in 2-3 years. Glad to see it works.
