Lower the pressure on my automag?

I have seen a valve nut that can lower the operating pressure to my mag from 800 to 650. Is this true and does anyone else have one or tried one? Does it work and is there any problems with it? Thanks

Mags take in about 850psi and use only 375 in the volume chamber. why are you looking to go from 800 to 650?

I have a adjustable reg and have it set at 575psi going to the valve with good results. The nut you are talking about i never heard of, how about some pictures or a link.

The OPERATING pressure of a Mag valve is ~375 PSI

Please link us to the product, so we may ridicule its usefullness

It was on ebay, with a parts kit. Then a question for Russ, if the operating pressure of the mag is 375, could I put a reg on it and turn down the pressure coming into it, to around 400?

I am trying to just get more shots out of my tank but if the tank is only using 375psi per shot then I am good.

Wonder if it was that Magic Box LP rig Smart parts came out with in 90's? They called it Smart mag.

No, you need an input pressure of AT LEAST 600 PSI, or you'll suffer severe shootdown.

I think it's time you download and read the manual available at the airguns.com website.

I have never done that. I should. Everything that I have learned about automags have been through automag.org on the forums or from trial and error doing it myself.
And the valve nut that I thought must of been miss written when they were selling it on ebay. I cant find the seller or another one on ebay. But the info that I got from this post answered my questions. Thanks

You really don't want to make your 'mag low pressure, it needs that higher pressure for a decent recharge rate. There's a simple rule when investigating an easy tweak to a marker that the manufacturer could easily have done at the factory. If it's easy, cheap and obvious, they probably didn't do it because it wasn't better. If 'mags were meant to function at lower pressure, AGD would have made them that way or told you to use a LP tank and not an HP one. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that AGD knows better than anyone what's best for a 'mag.

What you may have seen was an Air America LP spring pack, not a nut. I don't think a valve nut would do anything to lower pressure besides unscrewing it and then your velocity would drop.

Everyone else is correct though. You don't want to and can't really lower the pressure on a Mag. SP made an attempt with the Magic Box mods and the Smart Mags, but the idea wasn't thought through very well. Although they had a dump chamber that had a bigger volume than the stock one and put in an 8-hole mod charger and different on/off top to increase flow, the didn't think about how to actually make the Mag run off LP. (its a long drawn out description to descibe what is needed to possibly perform this.) It still required the normal 800 PSI input and it wasn't very efficient. All the claims that SP said the mods would do just plain didn't work. Those Mags are still great guns and still work perfectly fine, but the LP thing is a myth.

As ThePixelGuru pointed out, if TK would have wanted an LP Mag, he would have made one and distributed it!! Just get used to your Mag using alot of air. Upgrade your tank to a larger tank like a 72 or 88/4500 to get a decent amount of shots (over 1000). A 68/3000 works, but you will have to refill often. Also, using a lvl10 will slightly increase your air consumption and a lot of players have said by going back to a lvl7 they get more shots off of a fill. I say just get the bigger tank and get used to it!

thanks Walrus and Pixil. I figured as much but wanted to check it out to see if it might be true. During the peak point of the mag days, a lot of stuff came out for the mag that worked and didnt.
