    Lvl 10/ULT leak checks

I bought a used Mag with x-valve/ult/lvl 10 a few weeks ago, have only used it twice and both times have been horrible. First time there were no breaks, but it was leaking through the carrier (it came with none so I bought all new carriers after that). At home I setup the carriers, and get the gun working perfectly with no leaks. I did the ball break test with my squeegie holding the ball half way in the breach and it wouldnt break. I get to the field and when I start firing fast it would break..but I said whatever, the gun is shooting alright I just want a consistent day of balling with no gun problems (I used to have a stock lvl 7 mag about 2 years ago which was nothing but trouble for me). About 500 shots in it starts to leak down the barrel when the trigger is not held (goes away when trigger is held (actually played the rest of the day holding the trigger in when not shooting). It was leaking down the carrier, but if I pressed in on the bolt it didnt change sound like before. I tried combinations of every carrier smaller than the original one (was using the third smallest) and no shims/1/2/3 shims, all leaked and broke balls. I also tried all 3 springs, but with the biggest spring the gun wouldnt cock, or would only fire once, and with the smallest carrier the gun would act like the carrier was too small...but would still leak sometimes if it would fire. So the problem may not be the carrier.

I plan on taking into a shop and changing every o-ring in the gun...but is this a carrier leak, how do I fix it, and how do I know when it is a leak in the carrier or on/off. I dont know if it has the same checks as a lvl 7...Also what, if any o-rings wear out fast and will regularly have to be changed?

I have had nothing but bad luck with mags, I chose to get a pimped out mech mag and spent a lot of money on it, and have had 2 failures...please help me get it working properly and see the reliability of AGD.

    Thanks

Well, if you have a leak from inside the gun (down the barrel) before you pull the trigger and then it stops when you pull the trigger, then you need to replace the orings in your on/off (ULT). Specifically the ones on the top.

Now, if it leaks before and after the trigger pull and the orings on the ULT are good, then you should check the orings on the carrier and the white orings that fit inside the carrier, provided that you do have the proper fitting carrier in place for your lvl10 bolt.

Since you bought the Mag used, I would say this orings in the ULT would need to be replaced first and then start troubleshooting from there. Also, make sure your ULT is well lubed using Autolube or similar lubricant. You may also want to throw a few drops of lube down the power tube as well.

Mags are great guns and they are durable. However like most guns it is best to replace all the seals in the gun if you purchase it used to ensure that it is ready to go with no issues.

Sounds like your gun is definately suffering from a carrier leak problem. If the leak won't go away, even with a smaller carrier with no shims installed, then replace the carrier oring and start again. Make sure there is no debris in the powertube that may contribute to your problem. Also, check your sear for wear. A worn sear will allow your bolt to sit farther forward and expose the vent hole.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

i can tell the gun hasnt been used much, there are no scratched, all the bolt parts look brand new even the bolt itself...

i tried changing all the orings in the carriers, no matter what it leaked, but it would still get stuck with a carrier too small, even with the leak

Is the rail bushing in place?

Could you post a picture of a breakdown of your gun. More specifically the powertube with the level 10 and your on/off (ULT). This may give us a little insight to ensure all orings are in place and accounted for.

You said that you also had to buy more carriers for the level10. How did you test to ensure that you were going to put the correct one in the powertube? Your original post said that it was leaking down the powertube when you recieved it. What carrier was in there and what is in there now? (carriers should be marked with dots and rings for identification)

Cleric, When tunning your L10 bolt the shims are like fine tunners to the carriers. When you add shims they squish your carrier o-ring very slightly, so when using more than 2 you may need to switch to the next loosest carrier. Carrier sizes go from single dot = 1/2 size and single line = 1 size, so a single line with a dot = 1.5 and a double line with no dot = 2 sizes.

The way I tune mine is find the carrier that will not allow the bolt to drop free when the stem is facing up (bolt turned upside down). Add shims until it starts to leak then remove the last shim. If you add more than 2 shims or the bolt starts to stick change to the next loosest carrier while using the same carrier o-ring. New carrier o-rings takes approximatley 700-1000 rounds to break in after that you may need to retune your L10 bolt. After the break in your mag will be very reliable...

i already explained the carrier that was in, i'm not missing any pieces, there is the back washer, carrier with 2 orings, shims, then tip.

the carrier that was on it worked in the original setup of the gun (but had 6 shims in the ult and would go auto/leak like crazy, when i took some out of the ult it worked for a bit then started to leak through the carrier (3rd smallest) i got all the other carriers and got it working, but it started leaking, and like i already said with NO shims, every carrier leaks...but the smallest one locks up the gun, but still leaks
