I'm just curious, will a regular foamie bolt work with the x-valve. Has anyone done this with good results?

Short answer: not without some tweaking. You can use an older bolt in there, but the anti chop effect will probably not be there (I would be surprised if you get it working). Some people have put the older bolts in (i beleive devimags do this). If you did this you may need to get standard powertube parts to replace the level 10 powertube parts.
With good results? I would say the level 10 and super bolt is still a better setup. The only forseable reason to get rid of the level 10 is for faster bolt reciprcation speed (allowing for faster max rate of fire and potentially allowing your loader to sustain a hire feed rate). This is a very minimal imporvement since as much as the level 10 mod slows the bolt speed down, the level 10 and super bolt is still faster than almost all bolts in other guns anyway.
The superbolt is still a better bolt than the level 7 since it has less recoil. You can still use this bolt and disable the level 10 I believe.
