ok, heres my issue, i have an x-valve, it leaks thro the bolt assem. and i oilded it, still leaks, i have 5 shims in the ule kit, and 2 shims in the bolt assem, and i also took out a shim in the ule so ther was 4 in it and it still leaks(and the bolt is recocked and still leaks), its a slow steady leak that is very noticable, so i was wondering if any of you mag mechanics could help a fellow mag owner out.

First, try tightening your field strip screw a little bit. Don't go past finger tight plus a quarter turn with a wrench.
If that doesn't work, go down a size or two on your bolt carrier. -

no it doesnt leak wen the trigger is held in...the the field strip screw is finger tight w/ a lil extra from the wrenchComment

Remove all the shims out of the powertube first. If it still leaks, go to the next tighter carrier with the same oring installed.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.Comment

without any shims get the leak to stop, then add shims so the balls dont break
use a smaller carrier, but use the same oring, take the oring out of the carrier now and put it in the next smallest carrier, go even smaller until the leak stopsComment

shims don't affect how hard the bolt hits the ball. The only thing that affects the impact force is the bolt spring. The shims only affect the ability of the bolt to reset after it has hit an obstruction in the breach. Most of the time, even without any shims installed, the bolt will have moved far enough to vent the air out of the chamber to allow a reset.
Without any shims installed use the largest carrier that doesn't leak. If that doesn't fix the problem change powertube carrier orings and do it again. If it still doesn't fix it, check your sear for wear.Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.Comment
