What are some of the symptoms if it is not working?

I have never seen one go bad, but I think they get dirty. Try polishing it off and see if that works, also check your valve to see if its dirty.

I am guessing that if the valve pin were damaged then you would have spikeing and hissing from the gun. It might be your regulatar seat that is giving you problems..

I'm not having a problem now, i would just like to know what the syptoms are so if it goes bad i know what to look for.

Inconsistent pressure is a major symptom. Its usually just a dirt problem.
