    Where should I start?

    Hey!
This is my first post ever.
I got this really old mag a friend gave to me. It got all the upgrade that were suposedly "state of the art" back in the 90's, 8 holes in the valve, sloted on/off valve, it even got a smartparts "magic box"... The only problems is, it doesn't shoot really well. As soon as you start pulling the trigger too fast, the bolt starts missfiring.Either it do 2 really close shot or it does not shot at all, instead making a squissshing sound (much like a frozen valve, but I used HPA). I dont know where to start, I've put a brand new o-ring kit in there, and no change. What should I do next?

I would do a strip down, cleaning, and lube job...enphasys on the lubing. I am a little suspicious of all that aftermarket stuff. Most mags stay stock for a good reason. Bust I don't have much experience with all that so maybe someone else can say wether there are problems with those mods or not.

An RT on/off in a classic valve works well. The slotted tops are often suspect for problems. Most 'mods' were do-nothings at best.

Do you know what kind of bolt it has? A level 10 bolt makes a big difference in trouble shooting. Pictures are always welcome...

I'll try to post pics later today!
I did lubed up all parts while replacing o-rings...
I was wondering if all these upgrades made for CO2 didn't cause the pressure to be too low to operate the mag correctly?!?
It has a level 7 bolt in it...

Change the bolt spring. A worn bolt spring will cause bolt stick and chuffing.

The sloted on-off top is the old style. They work fine.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

Wasn't there an aftermarket on-off that had slots on the top side? The description I read was not an upside down old style top. Some sort of 'turbo' on-off. I have not seen one though. Maybe it was in those 'Hoover(?)' files I came across the other day.

No on-off tops that I remember had slots in the top side. Many had slots in the bottom side of the top. Some of the aftermarket slots were larger than others.

I was thinking the following was addressing the variety of aftermarket on/offs that I had always avoided (and have no direct experience with), but looking it back up (to make sure my memory is kind of working) it may be talking about self 'customized' on/offs. That was the picture I got from Bill666's 'upgraded', slotted on/off, but I believe you are right, it makes more sense that it is a old style on/off.

                  ...

If you cut all the grooves in the back side of the top, all you are doing is allowing the o-rings to get small cuts and nicks from the machined grooves. The air does not pass the outside of the top--it goes through the middle hole and then out the slots into the air chamber.

The two tops I do like are the new Airgun Designs, and Vemon tops. I think the Vemon Wizard Valve may a little excessive though.
