    Black Ego-mag Project

Just wanted to show off my work. I wouldn't of been able to do it without a lot of help from this forum. You guys rock! First I'll start by citing some sources. This is the original post that I found out about this mod:

Basically the automag has a sear that needs to be mechanically pushed. In order to do this the idea was to take a small ram and a small solenoid and a low pressure source and go. The original E mag used a big *** solenoid to actually trip the sear which is why you see those huge *** batteries on them (the fore grip thing). This setup uses hardly any battery power as all it has to do is move the little solenoid that lets air into the ram to do all the work. Plus you get the wonderful feel of an ego frame and great LCD as well.

    What was needed:

    Ram
    Solenoid
    Ego Frame + Board
    LPR
cocker 3-way hose, barbs and set screws
stainless steel end for the ram for long life

The RAM & Noid and little misc stuff can all be purchased from:

Specializing in unusual paintball parts and old school pump guns

    The challenges:

-Fitting the ram inside the frame
-getting low pressure inside the frame to the noid
-getting the frame to fit the mag

    The process:

    I started with a mpa-3 as a ram:

You basically need to shave this thing down as small as possible to fin in the frame. I used a dremel at first, then a flat file to get a decently smooth flat edge on both sides.

Then you need to notch the ram for sear travel:

Then I grinded as much off on the frame itself till the ram fit snug into the frame:

After this I made the frame fit on the mag itself. None of the holes line up so I had to drill a hole in the trigger guard (easy one) and then one on the back (harder one). The one on the back is hard to get too because the drill bumps into the lower part of the frame. I cut the end of the hole pretty big so my screw would counter sink a bit and not catch on my hand. One of the unique things that I did was dremel down the front of the frame so it would fit flush with the vertical adapter. I was really happy the way it came out.

Next I needed a way to get Low pressure into the grip for the noid. I've seen them done out the front and it looks pretty nice but I was that confident in my drilling & tapping skills so I went the easy route and just got an on/off asa that had holes on both sides to put the LRP into. I needed to drill a hole in the bottom to feed the hose through:

Heres some shots of the frame mounted:

This is a good shot to see how flush the frame lines up with he vertical adapter

Next I just soldered on the end to the noid so it plugged into he ego board:

And then I hooked the lpr to the noid and the other end of the noid to the ram and here it is all put together:

And here's some finished product pics:

Here are some updated picture, gt a nice foregrip from deadlywind and a shorter barrel.

And here is some You Tube vids of me shooting it.

This one is a bit better, it held 15bps just fine.

Let me know what you guys think. If you want more detailed info just post up.

        looks great, really clean conversion
particularly good job with the frame to fit flush with the VA
im personally a fan of putting the LPR on the VA but your gun looks so hot with the carbon foregrip

        obviously rips from the vids
almost makes me want a mag again...

looks sweet, good job. you make it look easy with your steps too. That Magna loader has got to be a little weird to get used to though

It's a karta rail. Wish I could find a body to go with it :-)

Yeah I always loved how the emags you could switch to mech mode.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do about the gap in the back of the frame?? The inside of the ego top part is hollow so I don't think I want to just cut it off. I was thinking maybe a custom snatch grip that fills in the space perfectly....????

I believe that rail is a Dallara rail, not a Karta rail. Kartas are based on the RT and are much longer. Mag looks very clean though, nice job.

Yeah I wasn't sure on that, I purchased the rail from themagsmith.com. I have seen the karta rt rails before but I always thought they made one using the classic rail & the rt rail??

                        Thanks for the info though!

Nice EP mag! Welcome to the club

that sucks you cant just cut the back portion of the frame off to match the rear of the rail. I think the snatch grip you mentioned would look good, it might be a bit of a pain getting it to fit properly(match the rail), but at least you already have a mounting hole on the frame.

A local guy did this for me, the back of the frame hits the rail flush at the back at the same angle. He made a little insert to fill the gap in the frame that the rail bushing goes in. It looks like it belongs on the gun, most people that see it are surprised when they find out it's an EGO frame.
