I would guess somewhere around .7". That would make sense to me, though I might be wrong. I don't believe you can adjust the travel, but if whatever it's pushing/pulling is strong enough I don't think it'll hurt to have extra travel, the ram should be fine with stopping mid-stroke.

What does your 'mag need a ram for? Are you making an autococking pump 'mag?

They have a 1" stroke. If you need smaller stroke than that, mcmaster-carr sells some tiny ones with a 1/2" stroke. Check under the Power Transmission category for air cylinders. You probably won't fine much commercially available for a stroke between modifying an MPA-3 and the 1/2" throw versions. Shimming the inside of a cylinder should work as long as you can take it apart without destroying it.

There's a little bit of interesting ram tech involved with the cheapy psychoballistics superbolt (autococker). They are going for about $50 +$20 shipping from I&I on ebay.

The ram on them is too long and smacks the hardened hammer back into the aluminum body. The solution for anyone interested in using the original ram (a few) is to put a small piece of rubber hose (5/16" iirc) in the front of the ram cylinder as a bumper.

I just used the parts to attach a pump.

              would it matter?
All that matters (at minimum) is Bore stroke, max PSI, and Power Factor.

With the possible exception of homemade rams, I don't think any cylinders used in paintball are made for paintball (for cocker style I mean, obviously most hammer rams are custom made). They are mostly off the shelf Clippard or SMC rams. http://www.mcmaster.com is the address. Like Pneumagger said, there are other factors that actually matter. I don't know how to hotlink to individual pages at mcmaster, or I would, but the cylinders are about halfway down the page in the left column under power transmission.
