I recommend you get really familiar with mags before you start buying parts. And buy as many parts together as you can, it will be cheaper.

Try checking out the playlist I have on youtube, you'll see a bunch of different mags.

And just bum around the forums for a while. Oh and look through the stickied MOTM records a couple million times.

You could save yourself the trouble and just buy one of these.

A lot of things depend on your style of play, the size of your wallet. Let's face it you can get a decent mag for the same price as a year old ego or protege. However there is a lot less maintenance to be done to the mag once you get it going... plan on it working for the next two decades. Have you been through the pic's thread? That should give you some idea of the different stuff out there.

Are you a woodsballer? Do you play speedball? Do you just rec play on diff types? How you play will really make the difference here.

Starting from a classic is fun because you can just add and swap parts... However, it's a good idea to keep an eye on here and ebay and such for good deals on a whole gun to use parts from or vice versa. When a x valve costs 170-220ish used and a whole gun with an x valve is like $240 you might make out with a good deal on the parts... now I am making up prices here and they will widely vary, but if you stick around the forums for a little while you'll get the feel for it.
