Haha, seriously man you can either go the route i told you to, which i wouldn't recommend because it's not the most legal, or you can get one of the free cads online and you can do some basic stuff in there. Other than that, all i can say is save up to get a copy and teach yourself, i'm trying to do it with minimal success.

google sketchup is actually decent.....I played around with it when I was making some furnature, didnt go into much detail with it but it seemed like a good program for being free.

snoopay700 I've got a solidworks tutorial book I could sell you....or better yet you could try to find an e-book version through the not so legal methods you are probably familure with Reading the books are just about pointless, but if you actually draw up each tutorial section you can learn alot about solidworks relatively fast.

Well i figure i'll wait for my class at 2 pm tomorrow and try learning it through that, and my roommate said he'll teach me some stuff, but i'm in no hurry, i still have to get the dimensions for my design concrete, and i have a great idea but it's executing it that is the problem.

Anyway, send me a pm of how much you want for the book if you think it'll help me out, because since i'm using a computer the school gave to me the not so legal methods won't really work on it since they can track that activity supposedly, i'm checking around but it seems like i probably shouldn't risk it.

lucky for me i have a friend with a government job, he can pretty much get me real copies of anything i want.
            just takes time.
i was hoping that maybe someone out here knew about a student version that was free or something like that.

I think the free student version is called Solid Edge. That's what my school gave me.

                Solid edge isnt solid works.

Solid Edge, is a diffrent company and everything. its real close to solid works, but close enough its a pain in the butt. Solid edge is given to schools for free Vs. solid works which a student copy costs like $80 or something... not free.

I have solid edge v20 from school, solid works 2008 as a sponsor for my SAE Baja team, Solid works office 2008 from work .

The solid works office 'calls home' a LOT. I have to say whoever made the pirate copy that has been floating around actually did quite a bit of work.

Soldworks offers a free version for "students". It has reduced capability but should do everything you ever need it to.

Just pirate a good copy of Solidworks 2k5 or later and you're good to go.
Better yet, pick up Pro/e WF2 or later.

                      well

well first off...openly talking about ripping off some bootleg software is a big big big no no....

good way to get yourself in trouble.

secondly...i highly suggest a great program called "catia". its much eaiser to use and allows you to do a whole lot more then other programs.

i am taking it that way due to him asking in the way he has. if he had the money to buy it, he would have already done so.

also, he already stated he gets other programs and such in a dark way....

i am not trying to be mean or nasty or anything. just saying asking openly can get him into a good bit of trouble.

first off "Sparky" I'm a Musician first and foremost, so I do not rip off copy written material.

what I'm looking for is a Share Ware/student version that is circulated freely!

secondly, when you ASSUME something, you make an *** of U & ME!

third, have you paid for every piece of software you own?
this includes all recorded material like music, movies and so on.
even if you have made a copy of something (in addition to a back up copy) on tape (yes I'm that old)
or disk, MP3 player or what have you... you have violated copy write laws.
and if you say your guilt free, I'm keeping clear of you, don't want to get hit by the lightning!
