I Want To Make A Mag Rifle

I've got the parts to make a classic automag lying around. I've always wanted a Mag Rifle with a wood stock. Am I crazy? Is this something I can do?

My tools consist of hand tools and a dremel. I was looking on ebay, and was thinking of picking up a cheap SKS stock, or maybe an M1 Carbine stock.

I'm not looking for military accuracy, but I do want a nice looking, functional rifle.

    What's your thoughts?

Yeah, I've seen his work. It's very impressive. However, I want to try this on my own.

50 bucks and it looks cool.

I say go for it. Mags are the best gun for this kind of mod.

I made my own set of blanks. The biggest issue I ran into was the fact that the barrels on paintball markers are a huge bore compared to sks/etc when it comes to using aftermarket bits and whatnot.

I used an m14 (some crappy Chinese synthetic) as my base but found working with the material to be a crapfest. In experimenting I've been using 2x4's to fine tune the machining.

The marker in question is an Ion. The air lines/electronics/clip system are all going to be internalized so I had to leave quite a bit of space. My biggest issue was the fact that the internals were pretty large and if I wanted to keep the thickness I had to sacrifice some strength...actually, alot of it. If I were to do it all again (and I plan to) I would want an aluminum U channel to reinforce the materials.

With just a dremel its pretty hard to start from scratch but if you happen to have a table saw or access to one you can come pretty close. Hacksaw and some patience can do most of the forming, but a bandsaw and router do it alot quicker.

Thanks for the input so far. Toll, that's pretty neat work.

Now I'm thinking that an SKS might be too big. Does anyone concur? I'm thinking M1 Carbine or even a Ruger 10/22 wood stock from ebay. Cheap is the key word.

Check your local gunshop if you have one. Even if you're not buying it if you ask nicely they could let you take some dimensions and get a feel.

Well, I bought an SKS stock from ebay. $14.50, I couldn't pass it up. We'll see how it works. I'll post pics when I get started.

I saw your M14 a long time ago. That's what got me thinkin'. I'm gonna steal your trigger idea for sure. How long is your barrel on the M14?

Custom made barrel extension or something after market? I have nothing but woodworking tools handy but it would certainly be a nice addition onto the end of this stiffi barrel
