    Dragunov stocks for 45 grips

Dealing the Ion rifle idea is giving me a very large headache, so I swapped over and did something relatively symplistic....Or atleast it will be done eventually

Just figured I'd make a progress thread so I am motivated enough to get this done

Back story : Local field has had their anniversary addition 98 stolen along with a bunch of other garbage (the theives were not paintball savy imo, they left thousands of dollars worth of gear in order to steal 3 revvies and that 98) so until they get that back I wanted to outfit a 98 with some swag for the wall. Another field in the area was robbed as well, but all they managed to do is break an empty register.

Working material is pine (because 2x4's are cheap cheap cheap) but eventually it'll be some nice walnut.

If anyone wants to donate a ridiculously long 98 barrel it's appreciated, or atleast point me in the way of one, that 18 inch monstrosity on sale for 29.99 seems like it would be nice

Gives me an excuse to use the set of Dado's I got for christmas for something other than cabinets.

lol.. all perspective, if comparing your start to his mid.. then yeah.. otherwise you have started which is more to say than some peoples.

i can check the length on the one 98 barrel i have, at most though its prolly 15. Kudos to effort to help out the local field.

Prototyping with cheap can be good, not a good idea to "practice" on quality walnut. Keep us posted.

Alright, spent some time in the shop today

            1) Battery pack for my mag. My FBM framed EP mag has space issues, so I made a foregrip to house the battery. It is ugly but functional thus far. Mortising jig would have made this a completely non issue....but No. No. Finally got around to making a new trigger/etc. Going to drill the back of the frame for an LED and maybe find some way of compressing the LPR into that massive foregrip as well.

            2) Stock 2.0 Much prettier

Is that an a5 sitting in there? Damn fancy.

Wish I had a little more realistic access to metal working equipment to move that along rather than a drill press/table saw/sandpaper sort of deal

The barrel shroud certainly looks alot better than what I've been able to turn out, I wonder if I could do the same using wooden forms and a vice for a break...Food for thought anyway. Suppose I should wander over to the tippmann owners too.

                Thanks Doc.

                Edit #2 :

                - My concern with the dragunov form is the fact that I dont know if the material is sturdy enough to be reduced down from the thumbhole version you see above to this In that case it would take alot of the glued surface area away since I doubt I can macine it from one soild peice of walnut....well, precisely machine it from once peice.

I imagine I would have two choices,

1)Take a saw and cut my left side depth, right side depth and then spend some time chiseling which seems like a pretty decent choice. Probably time consuming but if it gets me where I need to be, fine.

                2) Remove an entire section approximately 3 inches deep and then insert a template in there+glue. This seems alot more clean cut and less frustrating, but then I still have the issue of not enough glueing surface when I move to take out material.

Mystery option 3) - Remove the damn trigger frame and have the 45 (most of it anyway) be one solid peice of walnut along with the stock (phantom style). I would much rather not do this again as I did it on my pump and it was a pain in the ***, how ever it does seem that it would be the most structurally secure (dropping some meaty 10/32's in there rather than the smaller grips) even with half the frame missing
