Need some help with mag sear theoretics

Well, I am doing a custom mag for myself. It is an electronic mag, but I really do not want to go the normal LPR/Ram/Solenoid route. I was thinking something more along the lines of an electromagnetic sear tripper similar to the eblade cockers. The issue there is I do not want that huge electromagnet sticking out of my grips. my question is this. How much force is necessary (in ounces or newtons) does it take to trip the automag sear? I know that the ULE trigger kit drops it to 15oz (according to the AGD site). Has this been tried and deemed an imminent failure?

    electromagnet I want to use:
    Tubular Electromagnet, 0.66 in (16.7mm) LENGTH x 0.375 in (9.6mm) DIAMETER, MSS E-66-38

From everything I have gathered, this will work. Is there any reason it shouldn't? The board I will be using is an 05 ego board, and I believe the power output of the solenoid port is 5 or 6 volts.

    Thanks in advance,
    MS

you could always use a spring or something to also "pull" on the sear just before the point at which it releases the bolt to lower the force needed to trip it. Im sure that you should be fine

yeah ive been working out the numbers, and so far its looking good. I need the solenoid port on the ego board to generate at least .9watts. with that, the solenoid will generate enough force. I plan on putting a ULE kit into the valve (once i get a valve). as this progresses, I will be posting pictures and such

        UPDATE:

got almost everything ready, valve is on the way.

I decided to go with the Proto SLG electromagnet/sear tripper because it already has the 2 pin connector and its really small. just need to get a ULT kit to make the weights right.

Yes, I will be posting pics when I am done, but not in this thread

dude, this is a really good idea! If it works I may want to try this, you say you are using ULT, wont that limit the ROF to almost nothing?

Now that I think about it, the rof may be pretty low anyways, I dont know how fast this would cycle

edit: so you are using the electromagnet from an SLG instead of the one you mentioned above?

sorry for the late reply, just got back from disneyland.

yes, i will be using the SLG sear. In no way should it limit my rate of fire, considering it will shoot just as fast as an slg will. from what i have been told, the minimag valve is capable of 9ish bps at 850psi input. I have a Ninja tank, and i do believe i can up the output to 1000ish psi.

ok, just to make sure i read correctly, you will place the electromagnet behind the sear so it pulls back or are you putting it below and using an emag like operation?

edit: what i meant about bps limit is that the ULT valve may limit your ROF becuase of the longer recharge time

ok, i get what you are asking now. the sear tripping electromagnet will be mounted directly under the on/off pin, and will be vertical like an eblade electromagnet. it will push straight up on the sear.

I wasn't aware that the ult reduced my rate of fire. ATM I have a minimag valve, which is not incredibly fast to begin with. I will try the valve out with out the ULT and see if the SLG sear tripper has enough force to operate the valve. if it doesnt, I will more than likely get myself a ULT and just deal with the speed

Call me silly... but I don't think that a ULT kit won't fit in a minimag valve without the proper milling... unless I am mistaken. I've never had a classic or minimag valve... but I know that the retro's needed to be milled out to use them.

the ULT thread says they will work but are not intended for the minimag valve i think. ill double check, but i hope im right. got a call from my local store today, told me my SLG electromagnet is in, ill be picking it up monday

ill update as soon as i can, probably saturday. I havent had time to go pick up the electromagnet from the local store yet, but ill let you know when it is all done

ok got an update for ya. got the slg solenoid, but I did not think about powering it. I thought the voltage coming from either my 05 ego board or my eblade board would be enough, but its not. I just need to get a 6800 uf 10v capacitor, which I am going to try and get tomorrow morning. then I have to switch it with the eblade capacitor, and place the electromagnet.

this also brought up an interesting point. because I need the capacitor anyway, I could theoretically run an SLG board in the ego frame, or just run an entire SLG frame. the SLG board appears to be pretty dang small, and would fit inside the ego frame quite nicely. however, I will be trying the capacitor before I go out and spend 100 bucks on a tadao SLG board

ok, made some more progress this weekend. got the capacitor, got it wired to an eblade board, I am just finalizing the placement of the enormous capacitor and the electromagnet

If you look around you might be able buy a stock SLG board for cheap from someone who upgraded.
