    Franken Mag... custom very body

    Franken Mag....

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ok, so i got tired of my powerfeed and wanted to lighten up my mag without dropping 100+ on another ule body I played with some ideas and some parts i had lying around and came up with a crazy combo...

the vert body began as a botragger mountain bike seatpost, and an old spyder victor. the victor had the removable feedneck which made it possible for me to hack the body and place it inside of the seatpost(which was already the size to fit the mag valve). after cutting and milling down the victor's firing chamber i marked up the seatpost like the mag body would be(to fit the sear, and then made cuts for the spyder feedneck and detents). after that i had to shave the bottom of the new body to line up with the rail. then it was pretty much all tuning... i had to make a new sear to reach through the body do i dont short stroke.

that is the basics... but i had to do a few mods like tap for different screws, and thread the body, and a lot of shaving for the rail for it to work. all in all, it was worth saving 100 some odd dollards...

alright, well... i present you the franken mag

EDIT: new pics... detents added to both sides of the body, new set screws added to hold the breech in place, clamp feedneck added...and a pic of the sear for luke

EDIT: new pics... progress up to first of july- features pretty much the finished product. working on getting a modded sear

the frame now sports an impulse blade trigger... i had one lying around, and i have always loved them, so i made it fit.

obviously more cosmetic work to come. but its nice because its vert feed, lighter, and takes threaded barrels with a better detent. i plan on getting an x valve and a spyder e frame(or setting it up as a pneumag)

let me know what you think!

That is very impressive. Not quite as neat and tidy as someone machining a CAD drawing, but still, not many people can say they made their own mag body. Just curious, do you know how the weight compares to a ULE body?

Great job. I'm just wondering how it will hold up though.

2 parts that might fail first will be the sear to bolt interface or the washer inside the body that the bolt spring seats against.

      Great tinkering though!

yes, as i said, MUCH more cosmetic work on the way... but it is compleatly functional now, so i figured i should put it up. i think it is close to a ule in weight... the seat post weighed pretty much nothing, all the weight is in the spyder breech.

well, i modified a agd sear... so hopefully that will hold up. and i milled a groove into the victor breech to fit the spring and bolt just as a mag body would, and the front set screw threads through the seatpost "body" and sets into the bottom of the victor.

sure can. i am working some on it this weekend, so while it is apart i will take some pics for you... and all the mods. for that matter.

but it was pretty simple... i had to make the bolt catch reach and catch while making it possible for the part that pushes the on/off long enough. soooo... i first modded the bolt catch. dremeled the front down to the right angle, and then the correct angle to catch.release the bolt. i then needed to lengthen the back to reach the on/off. i actually used a finishing nail... i drilled a hole into the sear and cut the nail to the length i needed (head up for the surface area on the on/off). then tapped it in tight.

                mods on the way!!!

mods that are coming soon are:

                -pneu kit
                -x valve w/ lvl x and ult
                -freak system
                -rap clamp feedneck

body will be sanded and smoothed out this weekend. the gap around the feedneck will be filled and the body will probably receive a coat of flat black...

parts i am on the lookout for:
                rpg trigger
                vert asa with lpr port

Fun build! I am glad you put up pic links, it was hard to imagine the combination.

It's amazing how you can go for years with an elbow feed and just one day say "no more". I think power feeds handle most loaders (gravity or powered) better than direct feeds, but elbows wear me down. I still have a few power feeds, but I gave up on clamping elbows.

and i am currently moding an rsx spyder frame... one with a vertical(ish) noid. so if anyone has guidance on how to mod that for a mag i would appriciate the help.

                    pic of the frame:

Looking at your new pics its interesting that it actually works. Looks like a blacksmith did the metalwork on the bottom with a peen hammer. Well done on the most ghetto job I've ever seen.

ha... thanks, i guess. the bottom of the seatpost "body" had to be grinded down to fit the rail snug... it is cleaner than the flash of the pic makes it look. the sear... yeah, it ghetto. but solid , and does its job well. hopefully it will look good when it is all done.

So, is your mountain-bike-mod mag reactive? That would be a "funny looking spyder" that you're hosing people down with.

i have to say i am a little confused by what you are asking.... it looks and operates like a mag. the breech was cut off of a spyder vicror... it is being used for barrel threads, detents, and the vert feedneck.
