    Automag slug body run

    hey everyone,
I might be trying to make a run at producing some slug bodies, but I just need to find out a few more things for the SolidWorks/Inventor modeling:

Does anyone have the thread template files for the cocker threaded barrels, cocker detents and angel feed tube?

Would anyone actually be interested in pre ordering any bodies?

Does anyone (P8ntbal4me is a perfect example) have experience marketing their own creations?

Check MCB, I think Manike posted up a 'standardized' cocker thread.

I need to check when I get home, I may have a slug model file already... Can't open it if I do, but I"ll look.

I would buy one, but under no circumstances would I put money down.

We see these threads at least once every month or so... Your best bet is to have pictures of a completed item to prove that you will go the lengths it takes to make one and then start asking who is willing to pay for one. The AGD/AO community has been burned too many times on pre-orders for anyone to pay attention to your desire to make parts.

In this economy where XMags and Karta Bodys are laying around every where for purchase I can not see a huge demand for Slugs. If a person had a slug they would still need to locate someone with a 4th axis CNC to mill it into a nice body. Colin, of Deadlywinds, will only use AGD slugs and rails to mill out Karta's and Dallara's bodies. XMagterror can mill his own slugs so he would not need them. Sorry but I do not see the demand.

Please do not let my post squelch your excitement. I really hope you go through with it and make a slug; if not for someone, at least for yourself.

BTW AGD ULE bodies use Angel detent threads

        AGD ULE Body
        Feedneck = M21x0.75
        Barrel Thread = UNF 15/16-20
        Ball Detents = M10x1.00

and this link may help you out a bit...

          thanks guys,

@Looper: I have the autodesk/CAD 2D multiview diagram for the slug and I have transferred that into Autodesk Inventor and I just need to transfer the Inventor model to SolidWorks. My original plan was to just make one for myself, but I was curious if I could make a little extra money to play around with.

@Frizzle Fry: I'll keep you in mind.

@vf-xx: thanks I'll check and see if I can find it.

Nothing personal, I've just had my fill of preorders (Crowdbuster, MM2k9, LiT3). I'd be good for one assuming the cost is right.

oh, I completely understand, It's very risky to put your money on something that isn't a sure fire quality product.

You have to realize that AO is known for having dealers that do not produce. Nothing against you.

yet again, I don't expect to have any automatic reputation. I need to actually make something first.... then we'll see if I can get pre orders

Advise from one designer to another. Dont trust anything you are given or find online without verifiying it

I'm mainly just looking at rails and bodies. For that reason all I need to do I make sure that my dimensions from the autocad files I have are correct. (I have the CAD file from this forum that is pretty much straight from AO) There's nothing I could do in the realm of valves unless I wanted to make som valve that fit in the place of the mag valve but worked on another design.

I've already discovered that the ULE body Inventor file on ZDSPB has a few errors in the feed tube. Plus, I think their Emag rail or emag body have faults with some of their dimensions. I'm going to use a caliper to go through a double check my 3D models against my own rails and bodies.

Right now, I have my slug 3d model to the point where I have all of it done except for the proper thread types. My Engineering teacher does not know how to draw threads in inventor so I am going to have to use example pieces from my ZDSPB models to learn how to make the threads.

My step after getting proper threads in the body is to master the use of the loft command in inventor so I can put some nice curves on the body. I have an Invert Mini body model (from ZDSPB) that has really really nice lofting on it, so I can use that as a way to learn.

After completion of the body I will send the file in for a quote on the price.
