    Project Syringe Slinger!

I have an old Trracer pump gun that I would like to make into a dart/injection gun for doctoring sick cattle. This would make it possible to inject them with medicine without having to catch them.

I'm planning on leaving the trracer pretty much stock, and the only thing I need help with is the design of the dart. It must be able to fly straight, and inject a payload when it hits the target. Any ideas?

You should be able to buy them already made but you are still going to have to catch the animal to get the dart back but if you wanna make them the you need to weight the back of the "dart" so the it can inject its payload, I would suggest plastic coated lead and then you need to a some form of stablizer which could be frayed nylon cord. I don't know how well it will work but I have a feeling you might be better off buying a prefab "dart". Goodluck.

Hmm... good point about having to catch them to get the dart back out, but could you somehow mount like a fishing reel on it so that after you shot the dart you could pull reel in the line and pull the dart out?

I'll have to do some internet searching for the prefab darts now :)

All the darts I've seen were spring loaded so when they hit it would trigger the spring to fully depress the syringe. They are all used to tranquilze so you could just pull it out. If you wanted to deliver drugs then you might make it larger (ie crossbow bolt size) so it might fall out with running. Would need to be a big needle so it won't break.

Dude if you can come up with a good needle design the trracer is the gun to do it with trust me. One time at my grandma's house I put one of her knitting needles in the barrel with a baal of cotton behind it and it shot fast straight, far, and fast and with enough power to stick into a tree about 25 feet from where I was standing. Note: I was using t6he winter spring.

                idea

First off, I am really fearing the amount of people who are going to use this information for bad things as opposed to billybob's intended use. Not specifically criminal or malicious, just extremely negligent...

Second, I would go with the product designed for this purpose as the amount of complications, both with its effectiveness and legal-wise, are numerous. If the actual pro-made product is affordable, I would go with that.

                    no

Nononononono..... I mean Billybob may be intending to use it for good reasons but others may see just how far and hard they can shoot something like a needle and really hurt someone. God, imagine how deep that would go if he shot himself in the arm with it..... ouch.

LOL! That would DEFINATELY be freakin painful!!!

Hmm... I'm thinking about machining my own darts out of thin aluminum and making them complicated enough so that "the average joe" couldn't replicate them :P That way no one without machining abilities could replicate the dart design easily. That would idiot proof it a lot!

hey guys that was just a suggestion. When I pulled that knitting needle stunt I was probably around 14 years old. Now I know better that knitting needle thing I tried was close to 10 years ago, I was just using that as an example. I did not mean to freak anyone out. Sorry
